Verian is an independent research, evidence, evaluation, and communications agency that helps governments solve public policy challenges by working with citizens and the public realm.
We provide services to government and public sector organizations, drawing on expertise in social research, policy development, and communication.
The agency operates globally, with offices across Europe, Asia Pacific, and the US.
About the role
Senior data processing analyst
· Remote (EU) · 12-month service contract, with intention to extend
Why this role is different
Verian runs some of the largest and most complex survey programmes in Europe - for EU institutions, national governments of the UK and EU Member States, national statistical offices, and a wide range of other national and regional public bodies. The data you process and quality-assure directly informs public policy decisions across the continent.
We are looking for a senior data processing specialist for whom two things will be true at once:
- Your craft is at the centre. The core of the role is expert delivery: processing, weighting, quality-assuring and delivering accurate survey data to demanding deadlines, in a fast-paced environment where project teams - and ultimately clients across Europe - rely on your depth and judgement every day.
- You will help co-create the automation. Verian is investing heavily in automated, code-based and AI-assisted data processing, and this work is happening now, in live production. As you deliver, you will work directly with our AI and automation engineers - shaping and helping build cutting-edge solutions for your own discipline, and learning hands-on how modern tooling is applied to real, large-scale programmes.
What you will do
- Own the data processing side of projects end to end: specifications, data management, quality assurance, documentation and final deliverables
- Carry out weighting, significance testing and other statistical procedures, working with methods specialists on complex survey designs
- Produce high-quality data tables, datasets and analytical outputs
- Help develop automated processing workflows in Python and/or R, including modernising existing SPSS-based processes
- Apply AI-assisted tools to coding, QA, validation and documentation
- Act as the technical contact for project directors, project managers and, where needed, clients
- Mentor and develop less experienced analysts as the team grows
What you need from day one
- Proven senior-level experience in survey data processing within market, social or policy research
- Strong coding in Python and/or R applied to data processing, validation or automation
- Solid survey statistics: weighting, significance testing, confidence intervals
- Deep understanding of survey data structures and downstream delivery requirements
- Professional working proficiency in English. Knowledge of German and/or French would be an advantage
What will strengthen your application (not required — much of this you will learn here)
- Interest in, or experience with, AI-assisted development tools - highly useful in this role
- SPSS and experience modernising SPSS workflows into code
- SQL, Databricks, Azure or other cloud data platforms
- Data visualisation (Power BI, R Shiny, Dash or similar)
What we offer
- Indicative rate of €2,900–4,300 per month — the final offer will be agreed based on your specific skills and experience
- Full-time engagement on an initial 12-month service contract (independent contractor or affiliate arrangement), with the intention to extend
- Fully remote, based anywhere in the EU
- A place in Verian's global Data Solutions team, reporting to a global manager in London, working on one or several large assignments alongside project directors and managers across Europe
- A rare chance to apply and learn state-of-the-art AI and automation approaches on real, large-scale programmes
The process — quick and simple
One introductory call, which will also cover the technical side; potentially a small practical task; then a fast decision. The work is available now and waiting — we will come back to you immediately, so if this sounds interesting, please get in touch as soon as you can.
