With market share and client engagement at all-time highs and our pace of product development faster than ever, this is an exciting and transformative time at Trumid.

Our business model thrives on participation, and so does our company culture. We rely on every team member’s contribution to help us accomplish our goals. To succeed at Trumid, you must be curious, passionate about your craft, ambitious, collaborative, and driven.

The opportunity.

The Data & Intelligence team at Trumid is seeking an experienced data engineer for a role that is central to our strategy in business intelligence, machine learning, and GenAI. As we work to embed intelligence and automation across our trading workflows, the construction of reliable, high-quality data infrastructure is a mission-critical challenge. This role will take a leadership position in solving it.

While many organizations separate these functions, we believe a hands-on leader who deeply understands both the data and its downstream use cases will empower us to move faster and achieve superior long-term results. You will join a team of software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and quants from diverse backgrounds and play a key role in shaping our technical direction.

What You'll Do.

  • Architect & Build: Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of scalable and reliable data pipelines that serve as the foundation for all analytics, from BI dashboards to production ML/AI models.
  • Own Critical Infrastructure: Take ownership of our core data systems, including our cloud data warehouse, ETL/ELT orchestration, and real-time data processing capabilities. You will drive the technical roadmap to ensure these systems evolve to meet future demands.
  • Mentor & Lead: Teach, mentor, and oversee less-experienced engineers, establishing best practices for code quality, testing, and operational excellence. You will foster a culture of high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate & Deliver: Partner closely with Quantitative Researchers, ML Engineers, and business stakeholders to translate their needs into robust, production-grade data solutions. You will be the expert for the systems underpinning their research and products.
  • Champion Data Quality: Establish and enforce data quality, governance, and observability standards across all data products to ensure their reliability and build trust with all consumers of data.

About you.

You are a seasoned data engineering leader who thinks like an owner. You have a strong analytical mind, a passion for solving complex problems in a practical setting, and a track record of building systems that stand the test of time. You see the bigger picture, from raw data ingestion to the production models and BI dashboards that consume it.

You excel at mentoring others and are comfortable setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and ensuring your team delivers with high standards. You understand that the success of every data-driven initiative—from a simple KPI to a sophisticated GenAI agent—is built on a foundation of clean, reliable, and well-architected data.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and productionizing data-intensive systems.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers and leading complex technical projects.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and Python, with deep knowledge of data manipulation libraries and backend development patterns.
  • Proven track record of architecting, building, and owning mission-critical data systems in a production environment (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, ETL/ELT pipelines).
  • Deep experience with modern batch data processing and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, Prefect).
  • Experience with real-time data processing and messaging systems (e.g., Apache Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub).
  • Engineering / Quantitative educational background (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics).

Nice-to-have knowledge and experience:

  • Experience in the financial services or trading technology domain.
  • Hands-on experience with the infrastructure for ML/AI systems (e.g., feature engineering, model deployment, monitoring).
  • Familiarity with the GenAI and LLM ecosystem (e.g., vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Employee Benefits

  • Highly competitive compensation
  • Fully paid medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Team-oriented and collaborative company culture
  • Flexibility for in-office and work from home arrangements

In compliance with New York City Pay Transparency Law, the base salary range for this role in New York City is between $150,000 and $250,000. This range does not include discretionary bonus or other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with this job. What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
