Who We Are:

At Emburse, you’ll not just imagine the future – you’ll build it. As a leader in travel and expense solutions, we are creating a future where technology drives business value and inspires extraordinary results. Our AI-powered platform helps organizations modernize financial operations, increase visibility, and optimize spend across the enterprise.

Emburse is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help power how we measure, understand, and grow our business. In this role, you’ll own key parts of our enterprise data platform—building trusted, scalable data pipelines that support usage metering, billing, revenue recognition, and executive reporting.

This role will start fully remote and transition to a hybrid schedule (3 days per week) once our Greater Boston–area office is established (anticipated near the Burlington area). You’ll work closely with Finance, Business Systems, and Analytics partners to ensure our data is accurate, complete, and decision-ready.

This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys connecting complex systems, solving ambiguous data problems, and translating business needs into reliable data solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and own data pipelines and models that support usage, billing, revenue, and executive reporting.
  • Manage and optimize Snowflake as Emburse’s enterprise data warehouse, ensuring performance, scalability, and security.
  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT workflows integrating data from systems such as Salesforce, BillingPlatform, and NetSuite.
  • Partner closely with Finance and Business Systems teams to ensure accurate usage, billing, and ARR reporting.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues, implementing durable solutions that prevent repeat problems.
  • Define data models, standards, and governance practices that enable consistent and trusted reporting.
  • Collaborate with engineers and system owners to improve upstream data quality and integration design.
  • Support automation, monitoring, and version control of data pipelines using modern tooling (e.g., dbt, Airflow).
  • Provide technical mentorship and raise data engineering best practices across the team.

What You Will Bring:

  • 5–7+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, ideally in a SaaS or subscription-based environment.
  • Strong expertise in Snowflake, SQL, and analytical data modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools such as dbt, Fivetran, Informatica, or similar.
  • Proficiency with Python, Git, Airflow, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience working with usage, billing, revenue, or ARR data is highly preferred.
  • A track record of identifying data quality gaps and driving scalable, long-term solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with Finance, Product, and Leadership stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.

So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
