Senior Data Analyst, Client Analytics

Location

Remote (USA); hybrid option for NYC metro area candidates.

Please note that we cannot provide visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Welcome to Chief Media

We're looking for a Senior Data Analyst who will build custom BI dashboards, data solutions, and present results directly to clients. You’ll own the full analytics relationship from requirements to delivery.

We're a New York City-based, data-focused media agency specializing in TV and streaming. We're a small, 40-person agency, which means you'll have direct impact on our products, as well as work closely with everyone from the data and tech team, to accounts and media buying teams, to the clients themselves.

Join our data team to help us build new data products, push our analytics capabilities, and contribute to our clients' success. Our team designs and manages data products and frameworks, builds data pipelines, and transforms complex data into actionable insights for media campaign optimization and business decision-making.

What working here looks like:

We're fully remote with a hybrid option for NYC metro area candidates. Our data and engineering teams are relatively small but we've invested in building a robust, cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Postgres, BI tools) that lets us operate a class above a company of our size. You'll have real autonomy and flexibility in how you approach problems, and your work will directly impact client strategies and our product development.

We value work-life balance and understand that good work comes from sustainable practices. We value excellence and want you to give your best, and we give you the flexibility you need to do it. If you're looking for a place where you can own meaningful projects, work across different types of analytics challenges, and actively collaborate with every team in a business, this might be a good fit.

Salary & Hours

$110000 - $130000

Candidates can be located anywhere in the United States but must be able to align working hours with our New York HQ.

Travel Required

Up to once per quarter to our New York HQ, and as needed for in-person training and client meetings.

The Role

Our analytics offering has been built to provide a granular and prescriptive media performance reporting product and is a key tenet of our value-add as an agency. Our data and engineering teams are small, but we've created a robust, cloud-based data foundation that supports an extremely capable stack of analytics and software products. In other words, our work isn't munging data in Excel and calling it data science.

You'll be working primarily on media performance and serving as a client-facing analytics partner for one or more accounts. We market ourselves as a bespoke solution, using our datasets as tools to solve our clients' specific problems, which means you'll be building custom reporting solutions from the ground up. We love building things and we're looking for candidates who love building things too, and who understand that strong client relationships and requirements gathering are just as important as technical execution.

In any given day, your responsibilities might include:

  • Building custom reports end-to-end. This means independently gathering client requirements, data modeling, and final report delivery.
  • Serving as the primary analytics contact for assigned clients, translating their business questions into technical solutions and presenting insights that directly inform critical marketing and media buying decisions.
  • Handling complex, high-priority ad-hoc data requests that require in-depth analysis of both standardized company data and a wide variety of client first-party data.
  • Designing and implementing BI data models that are both flexible enough to accommodate evolving client needs and robust enough to scale.
  • Using your technical skills to build queries, scripts, and data transformations that support and improve existing analytics products.
  • Coming up with and pitching ideas you feel will add value to our product stack.
  • Helping build and expand the company's data culture while mentoring more junior team members.

Core Requirements

The things we’d like you to have to be successful from the outset:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative degree, or non-traditional background with proven track record of rigorous analytical work.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in an analytics or data science role, with at least two years in a high-visibility client/non-technical stakeholder-facing position.
  • Proven experience building custom BI solutions from requirements gathering through final delivery, ideally in a marketing, media, or agency environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI or Tableau, including both data modeling and report development. Experience with cross-platform marketing data integration is highly valued.
  • Expert-level SQL skills (we use Postgres). You should be comfortable writing complex queries, optimizing performance, designing foundational BI-focused data models, and debugging production issues. Your queries will run in production environments, and you'll direct engineers when needed.
  • Familiarity with dimensional data modeling concepts (star schemas, fact/dimension tables) and their application in BI tools.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data manipulation (pandas, numpy). You should be comfortable reading code, writing utility scripts, and participating in technical discussions with engineers.
  • Strong understanding of predictive analytics and statistical modeling approaches. You'll work with existing attribution models, forecasting frameworks, and statistical methods. We need you to understand, explain, and apply these approaches to client problems, even if you're not building them from scratch.
  • Demonstrable experience translating ambiguous business problems into technical solutions – often with incomplete or evolving requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts and statistical findings to non-technical stakeholders in high-stakes client settings both in formal presentations and ongoing relationships.
  • Ability to work autonomously on complex projects with minimal supervision, while knowing when to escalate or collaborate.

Bonus Points

The things that will make you really stand out:

  • A master's degree in a STEM field, particularly in statistics, data science, or related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience building marketing attribution models or working with multi-touch attribution frameworks.
  • Understanding of marketing analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, marketing mix modeling tools, etc.) and how their data integrates into broader analytics solutions.
  • Deep expertise in dimensional data modeling best practices (Kimball methodology, SCD handling, etc.) and advanced application in complex marketing data environments.
  • Experience in media agency or performance marketing environments, particularly with cross-channel campaign analysis.
  • Familiarity with software engineering principles (version control, documentation standards, code review practices) that facilitate effective collaboration with our engineering team.
  • Any experience conducting independent research in an industry or education setting, particularly applied research that led to actionable business outcomes.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
