We are looking for an outstanding attorney to provide product support to our Rentals business. While serving as the legal point-of-contact for assigned scope within the business line, this attorney will be responsible for handling a broad range of legal matters, which may include commercial contracts, software and data licensing, marketing and claim substantiation, trust & safety protocols, customer support escalations, and general product support for a variety of renter and landlord tools. Areas of law may include landlord-tenant law nationwide, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 5 of the FTC Act and state equivalents, money transmitter law and other laws related to payment processing, competition law, TCPA / CAN-SPAM, and other consumer protection laws.
In addition to providing quick and accurate legal advice, this role will require a keen ability to identify, engage, and collaborate with other stakeholders within Legal and Compliance and other shared services. Supporting Rentals requires a willingness to learn new areas of law while also understanding when to leverage subject matter experts. Above all, this attorney should have demonstrated expertise in supporting the development and launch of tech products, offer creative solutions to complex problems, and excel at building strong relationships with both clients and colleagues.
In this role, you will get to:Serve as legal point of contact and subject matter expert for assigned scope. Support includes all aspects of the product development lifecycle, including product design and copy, marketing collateral, vendor / partner contracts, customer service scripts / escalations, data use & privacy implications, and disclosures and terms of use
Embed with business partners and provide strategic legal counsel for special projects, pilot programs, and other key initiatives
Proactively partner with cross-functional business teams and shared services (e.g., privacy, fair housing, finance, compliance, risk, licensing, communications, and marketing) to identify and resolve novel legal matters that arise during the product development lifecycle
Analyze proposed and enacted legislative changes that impact assigned products and work with government relations and product teams to develop and execute implementation plans
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including for key strategic partnerships
You are a highly responsive and trusted advisor that has:
5-7+ years of relevant experience as product counsel with a national or regional law firm or in-house legal department, preferably at a tech company.
A JD with active state bar admission
Experience with licensing, intellectual property, and commercial agreements
Experience in marketing, data, and general advertising law
Experience with consumer protection laws
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with ability to persuasively convey implications of legal issues and risk
Outstanding attention to detail, a proactive work ethic, and excellent drafting and negotiation skills
Desire to take ownership of projects, issues, and functions and quickly get things done
A demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and levels to develop consumer-centric, leading-edge solutions
