Team Overview
The U.S. Financial Services Legal team supports TransUnion’s core business by providing strategic legal guidance across commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The team partners closely with business, compliance, and senior leadership to enable growth while protecting the company. This role reports into the Managing Counsel, U.S. Financial Services. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.Role Overview and Core Responsibilities
This role exists to support the growing volume and complexity of commercial transactions within the U.S. Financial Services business and to backfill a recently promoted team member (Managing Counsel). The Senior Counsel will drive timely, compliant deal execution while proactively managing legal and regulatory risk.
- Serve as lead attorney for a portfolio of commercial agreements, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating customer contracts
- Provide clear, practical legal advice to business stakeholders on contract terms, risk exposure, and negotiation strategy
- Anticipate, identify, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across financial services, data, and technology agreements
- Partner cross-functionally with compliance, product, and business teams to support strategic initiatives and revenue generation
- Maintain visibility into deal pipeline and proactively communicate negotiation status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders
- Monitor and interpret relevant legal and regulatory developments (e.g., FCRA, GLBA, privacy laws) and advise on business impact
- Support dispute resolution and assist senior attorneys on matters with potential litigation risk
- Contribute to operational excellence by improving contract processes, templates, and playbooks
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, supporting their development and effectiveness
- Deliver training and education to internal stakeholders on contracting best practices and legal considerations
Required Knowledge and Experiences
- 4–6 years of legal experience (law firm and/or in-house) – essential for handling a high volume of complex commercial agreements with minimal oversight
- Experience negotiating financial services, data, or technology agreements – critical to effectively support TransUnion’s core products and client relationships
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., FCRA, GLBA, privacy, IP, technology law) – enables accurate risk identification and compliant deal structuring
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills – required to assess risk, resolve issues, and provide actionable recommendations in a fast-paced environment
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership – required to provide legal counsel and independently manage contract negotiations and risk
- Contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools and workflows (e.g., Ironclad, Icertis, or similar platforms)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for drafting, analysis, and stakeholder communication
- Legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) to stay current on regulatory developments and support legal analysis
- Experience working in a highly regulated industry such as financial services, fintech, or data/credit reporting
- Familiarity with privacy and data governance frameworks and evolving regulatory trends
- Proven ability to work effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional organization
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels
- Experience mentoring or developing junior legal talent

Pay Scale Information:The U.S. base salary range for this position is $112,500.00 - $187,500 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual’s education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion’s annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.TransUnion Overview:
