About CoLab

At CoLab, we help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.

CoLab is the AI platform for driving stronger engineering decisions. Every design review in CoLab builds a knowledge repository of design feedback, decisions, and lessons learned - which AI agents draw from to flag issues on future designs before they compound. The more your team works in CoLab, the smarter it gets and the faster you arrive at the ideal design. Companies like Ford, Komatsu, and Johnson Controls use CoLab to catch issues earlier, eliminate rework cycles, and bring products to market faster.

Founded in St. John’s, Newfoundland, CoLab has grown quickly from our first customer in 2019 to a rapidly scaling company. We’ve recently been recognized on Deloitte’s Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, and named a Canadian company to watch by The Globe and Mail and Financial Post.

About the Role

You’ll take ownership of our US-based cloud infrastructure across both Commercial and Public Sector environments, including our FedRAMP High authorized environment in AWS GovCloud.

This is a hands-on role focused on operating, securing, and scaling a production system supporting regulated workloads. You’ll work inside highly controlled environments, contribute directly to infrastructure and application reliability, and help maintain our FedRAMP authorization through ongoing continuous monitoring (ConMon), security operations, and audit readiness.

You’ll also partner closely with third-party vendors and internal teams to support customer onboarding, system improvements, and ongoing compliance requirements.

What success looks like in your first 90 Days:

30 Days: You’ve passed onboarding, completed security training, contributed code and are comfortable working across both Commercial and Public Sector environments.

60 Days: You’re contributing a substantial amount of code (Terraform, Python), reviewing others' work, and managing tasks in the Public Sector environment independently.

90 Days: You’re operating independently across Commercial and Public Sector environments, proactively identifying and resolving issues, contributing to system reliability, and supporting ongoing compliance and monitoring activities.

Our Ideal Candidate

You’re a senior engineer with deep hands-on cloud experience who is comfortable writing infrastructure as code, navigating complex environments, and adapting to a security-first approach. You bring technical depth and the curiosity to learn our unique systems and constraints.

You’ll thrive here if you:Have a security-first approach to solving problems or designing solutionsHave a strong point of view on how cloud infrastructure should be managed and a bias for clean, auditable codeCan dive into unknowns, break down stack traces, and own infrastructure problems end-to-endAre comfortable in ambiguity and thrive in a “figure-it-out” environmentHave a self-starter attitude but know that you have a team to support you if you need help

  • Support the broader Platform Team with secure, scalable infrastructure design and implementation
  • Collaborate closely with Third Party Vendors during the Public Sector implementation and assessments
  • Actively contribute to internal codebases (Python + IaC) and participate in PR reviews
  • Take on and eventually lead technical initiatives in Public Sector infrastructure and deployments

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
