Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture. 

Within Azure Data, the Insights and Analytics team is building and maintaining internal analytics and reporting platform running on Microsoft Fabric to provide instant insights to the Azure Data engineering team leadership, Product Managers and Engineers. The team also acts as a first customer of newly developed products and features running them in a production environment while working together with product managers and engineers on providing product development feedback.

Responsibilities

• Create executive-ready reports, dashboards, web apps and presentations with leading edge esthetics as well as ease of use and best in class navigation for storytelling via Power BI and agentic experiences. Ensure consistency, performance and reliability across reporting assets. 
• Drive Scalable Analytics: Implement semantic models, self-service processes and artificial intelligence–based solutions to improve speed and efficiency of decision making. 
• Translate Strategy into Data Solutions: Convert business needs into technical requirements and guide decisions through high-impact analytics. Enable high quality and efficient AI agentic experiences across our platform. Drive automation and efficiency improvements through AI. 
• Shape Platform Evolution: Through strategic collaboration with the Data Engineering team, influence how data is ingested, transformed, and consumed, contributing to platform strategy and scaling impact across teams. 
• Apply advanced techniques such as DAX, Power Query, Fabric Notebooks, Ontology, AI skills and semantic modeling to deliver scalable insights. 
• Perform data exploration via analytical tools, query languages (SQL, KQL) and agentic experiences

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR equivalent experience. 

Job Requirements: Other & Additional  

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: 

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.  

Preferred/Additional Qualifications 

  • ​Hands on experience with Microsoft Power BI, Fabric, DAX, T-SQL, Foundry and agentic development.​ 
  • Demonstrates strong executive presence with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior leaders, stakeholders, and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience performing data exploration via analytical tools, query languages (SQL, KQL) and agentic experiences.

Data Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
