Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior BESS Controls Developer to join our team of skilled professionals dedicated to delivering cutting-edge energy management solutions. This individual will play a key role in developing and optimizing EMS controls to enable seamless integration of energy assets such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy sources, and grid interfaces. The role combines hands-on controls development expertise with a strategic focus on product lifecycle management. This role is majority remote but will need to come into an office or R&D facility on a regular basis.


The Senior BESS Controls Developer will lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced EMS solutions tailored to renewable energy and storage systems. This position will involve working with multidisciplinary teams, managing product development pipelines, and ensuring compliance with grid codes and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities include software design, system optimization, and field validation, along with active collaboration with hardware, software, and business teams to ensure the delivery of best-in-class energy management products.


Key Responsibilities:

Energy Management System (EMS) Development:

·       Architect, design, and develop EMS controls for renewable energy assets, including real-time control and optimization.

·       Integrate EMS solutions with SCADA platforms and third-party systems for seamless data communication and operational efficiency.

·       Develop logic in Simulink, Codesys and/or AcSELerator to fulfil the requirements of the EMS.

Product Development and Lifecycle Management:

·       Lead the EMS product development lifecycle from concept through deployment and maintenance.

·       Define product requirements in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

·       Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, protocols, and grid codes.

Control Systems Optimization:

·       Develop control algorithms for EMS to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and grid stability.

·       Implement advanced functionalities such as load forecasting, demand response, and optimal dispatch.

Collaboration and Leadership:

·       Collaborate with software and hardware engineers, project managers, and business development teams to align on technical solutions.

·       Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge-sharing initiatives within the team.

Testing and Deployment:

·       Perform simulations, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, and field validation of EMS functionalities.

·       Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during deployment and operations.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

·       Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and market demands.

Drive innovation and process improvement initiatives to maintain a competitive edge.


Requirements

·       Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.

·       5-7+ years of EMS development experience, preferably in renewable energy, BESS, or grid-tied systems.

·       Proven track record in product development and deployment.

·       Strong Matlab/Simulink experience

·      Expertise in control algorithms, power systems modeling (PSCAD, PSSE, etc.), and EMS software architecture.

·     IEC-61131-3 programming language and experience with Codesys, AcSELerator or similar IDEs/control hardware.

·       Experience with communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).

·       Familiarity with SCADA systems, databases, networking.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Team-oriented mindset with leadership capabilities.

·       Authorization to work in the US.

·       Valid Drivers License.


Certifications (Preferred):

·       Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Professional Engineering (PE) license, or equivalent.

Compensation And Benefits

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The salary range for this role will be $130,000- $160,000.

Within each posted range individual pay is determined (and may be greater or higher) dependent on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
