WHOOP is hiring a Senior Battery Engineer to support the performance, quality, and reliability of our battery systems across current and future products. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in sustaining and improving battery performance in the field, collaborating across engineering, quality, and supplier teams. You’ll contribute to failure analysis, qualification efforts, and regulatory compliance initiatives, while driving continuous improvement in our battery subsystem.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for field quality issues related to battery systems
- Execute validation testing and verification strategies for battery packs, cells, and associated electronics
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and qualify new suppliers, components, and manufacturing processes
- Develop and maintain comprehensive test documentation for safety, durability, and regulatory compliance
- Interpret regulatory standards (UL, CE, IEC, etc.) and support certification testing activities with internal and external partners
- Contribute to battery subsystem risk assessments and DFMEAs, focusing on field reliability and compliance
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience working with battery-powered devices, ideally in consumer electronics or wearables
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering (or related field)
- Preferred Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related field
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion cell design, battery chemistry, safety considerations, as well as system integration
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory standards (UL, CE, IEC) and experience supporting product certifications
- Hands-on experience conducting battery testing, analyzing results, and summarizing findings in technical reports
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Experience supporting supplier assessments or participating in supplier audits
- Experience with rechargeable battery systems in wearables, consumer electronics, or related industries preferred
- Experience in managing supplier relationships, and auditing new suppliers and alternate battery technologies preffered
- Experience mentoring or leading technical teams preferred
- Experience with scripting, data engineering, and visualization using Python or other relevant tools preferred
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
