About Blitzy

Blitzy is a Cambridge, MA based AI software development platform  on a mission to revolutionize the software development life cycle by autonomously building  custom software to unlock the next industrial revolution. We're transforming how enterprises build software, turning enterprise requirements into production-ready code with an agentic software development platform that can autonomously execute 80% of the quantum of software development work.  We're backed by multiple tier 1 investors, and have proven success as founders of previous start-ups.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer to take real ownership across our stack. You'll work directly alongside our CTO on current product and future development, and partner with the founding team to shape product, technology, and strategy. You'll help build not just our software, but our culture, our processes, and our engineering practices.

There are hard, interesting problems to solve here. We want someone who finds that genuinely exciting. If your colleagues describe you as curious, driven, kind, and creative — you'll fit right in.

What Success Looks Like

  • You write, review, and ship production code. The company's success depends on what you build.
  • You use Generative AI tools daily to improve the quality and speed of everything you deliver.
  • You make long-term architectural decisions, balancing speed, quality, and safety — not just what's easiest today.
  • You own the code you write end-to-end: from design through deployment to ongoing operations.
  • Your team can count on you when something breaks in production.
  • You communicate openly, share your reasoning, and keep the team aligned on important decisions.
  • You're a first-principles thinker who digs into how things actually work, not just how to use them.
  • You learn quickly from sparse documentation and unfamiliar codebases.
  • You thrive with autonomy, take pride in your craft, and go the extra mile to make things work.

Areas of Ownership

Our hiring process is designed to assess a generalist set of engineering capabilities, with a specialization in back-end technologies.

Required expertise: Python, Terraform, and GCP.

Plus experience with several of the following:

  • Backend frameworks: Python, Node.js, NuxtJS, or Express.js
  • Cloud platforms: Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure
  • Languages: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, or Go
  • APIs & RPCs: REST, gRPC, or GraphQL
  • Databases: SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Firebase
  • CI/CD: Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab, or similar
  • Version control: Git or Perforce
  • Architecture: Microservices

Ways to Stand Out

  • AI platform experience: OpenAI, Anthropic, HuggingFace, Vertex AI, Bedrock, or SageMaker
  • Enterprise scale: proven track record building systems with >99% SLAs
  • Deep Python, Terraform, and GCP expertise: not just familiarity — you've used these at scale

You'll Get

  • Competitive salary ($150K–$200K) and meaningful equity
  • Paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents
  • 4% 401K match
  • Flexible vacation, sick days, and work-from-home days
  • Technology budget — hardware, software, books, whatever you need
  • The chance to reshape an entire industry and build technology that changes how software is created
  • A beautiful office in One Kendall Square, surrounded by an energizing community of fellow startups
  • Unlimited snacks, coffee, espresso, and fizzy water — fuel for your best work

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
