The Digital Facilities Platform group within the Global Risk Solutions ( GRS) Distribution and Underwriting organization is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their team and seize this exciting opportunity to support the development of the digital trading roadmap and maintain operations for existing cloud-based solutions. If you're an ambitious software engineer eager to challenge yourself and gain invaluable experience in a fast-paced environment, this role is for you.
This team is aligned with the Global Distribution, responsible for delivering essential services to the Liberty International Insurance (LII) Business, encompassing both technical and business processes. The team provides the architecture, delivery skills, and resources needed to support business outcomes.
About the job:
- Collaborate effectively within a project team alongside the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and other team members.
- Prioritize understanding and applying the principles of engineering excellence in your work.
- Write clean, maintainable code according to the team's standards, continuously seeking improvements to coding practices.
- Own, scope, and deliver well-defined deliverables or user stories, providing regular progress updates during stand-ups and other agile ceremonies.
- Develop and maintain software products that conform to established specifications and meet LII's/Enterprise quality standards and guardrails.
- Support, monitor, and maintain production-grade systems using observability tools and address issues as they arise.
- Work closely with both technical and non-technical teams to achieve optimal solutions that maximize customer value.
- Foster a culture of code quality by implementing automated unit and integration testing within the software development lifecycle. Apply security best practices, including threat modeling, to your code.
- Enhance your knowledge of architecture, modern engineering principles, and design patterns.
- Implement your team's approach to delivering high-quality, tested code while maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines. Participate in code reviews and actively review pull requests from team members.
- Produce technical specifications and other documentation as required for development solutions.
- Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, vendors, and customers.
- Mentoring and coaching team members.
- Bachelor's degree in technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of Backend Engineering experience building API products and managing API solutions (e.g., Apigee), including API versioning, documentation, and developer onboarding.
- Must have experience in AWS serverless solution design and event-driven integration patterns.
- Must have experience in developing AWS cloud-native solutions.
- Proficiency in backend languages that deliver business value, such as Python and TypeScript.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Git, or similar for deployment purposes.
- Knowledge of various database paradigms, including SQL and NoSQL.
- Solid understanding of security protocols and standards.
- Experience with automated testing principles.
- Deep understanding of engineering excellence principles and the ability to demonstrate this in your work.
- Experience in feature or function design and delivery as part of an agile software development team (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, XP).
- Experience working with Product Owners, customers, end-users, or stakeholders in delivering software, solutions, or products.
- Proven experience working independently.
Desired skills:
- Experience in integration design, development, and delivery.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., AWS CDK, Terraform).
- Experience in supporting, monitoring, and maintaining production-grade systems, including investigations using observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, AWS tools).
