We are seeking a policy professional who loves to generate creative solutions to complex problems, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is energized by working collaboratively with highly motivated and knowledgeable colleagues.

The Policy Analytics group sits within Avalere’s Healthcare Policy Practice, and provides advisory services, including policy analysis and strategy, data analytics, and quantitative modeling to a wide range of clients across the healthcare industry such as life science companies, managed care plans, providers, and patient groups. Issues of focus will span the health policy landscape, including but are not limited to the Medicare program (Medicare Part B, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage), Medicaid, the 340B program, the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance exchanges, and other state policy issues (e.g., drug pricing legislation such as drug affordability review boards, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) regulation).

What you'll do

  • Support project teams to help solve complex client problems and engage clients with novel solutions and ideas, through both short- and long-term projects.
  • Conduct quantitative research on a diverse array of healthcare issues (e.g., policy modeling, statistical analyses, administrative claims analysis)
  • Assist in translating and communicating the implications of policy changes on clients’ businesses and strategic priorities
  • Draft written summaries, white papers, and PowerPoint presentations to provide strategic recommendations to clients
  • Deepen subject matter expertise on policy-related issues impacting the pharmaceutical/biotech and health insurance industries
  • Work independently and in cross-functional teams to contribute to the development and delivery of projects to clients
  • Draft scopes of work and using subject matter expertise to collaborate and bridge work across teams

About you

  • A degree in health policy, public policy, healthcare management, public health, public administration, economics, business administration, law, or a relevant discipline is essential

  • Skill requirements

  • Strong understanding of government payers including Medicare Part D, Medicare Part B, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid.
  • Familiarity with key data sources for healthcare analysis (e.g., Medicare Claims, Medicare Part D data, commercial claims data, Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) data, or Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) data)
  • Demonstrated analytic and quantitative skills
  • A strong interest in and knowledge of healthcare policy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel

  • Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with one or more programming languages (e.g. SAS, SQL, Stata, R) strongly preferred, with opportunities to strengthen and develop skills
  • Ability to understand and convey data results, including synthesizing analytical results for a non-analytics focused audience.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytic skills with the ability to apply knowledge outside of one’s immediate functional area.
  • A willingness to learn complex issues relating to the healthcare delivery system
  • Initiative, working independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Experience in managing multiple deadlines

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
