The mission of the Safety Surveillance & Collaboration (SS&C) team within CVS Healthspire Life Sciences Solutions (LSS), is to actively monitor the US public health in collaboration with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), academic institutions, and other collaborators. The SS&C team conducts descriptive research, medical chart review validations, and pragmatic research using the Real-World Data tools, including Common Data Models (CDMs).

Position Summary

The Senior Associate Epidemiologist / Senior Decision Scientist will play a strategic role in advancing research programs and expanding collaborative scientific initiatives. In addition to supporting real-world evidence generation and complex data analyses, this individual will identify and cultivate partnerships with academic institutions, research consortia, foundations, and other non-commercial organizations.

The role will lead efforts to evaluate emerging research opportunities, identify potential grant-funded collaborations, and position LSS as a valuable research partner and subcontractor in externally funded projects. The successful candidate will help identify evidence gaps that can be addressed through SS&C's unique data assets, epidemiologic expertise, and analytic capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and advance collaborative research opportunities with academic investigators, research networks, government agencies, and public health organizations
• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships to support joint publications, grant proposals, and scientific initiatives
• Proactively monitor federal, state, foundation, and other grant opportunities relevant to epidemiology, public health, health outcomes research, and real-world evidence
• Assess where LSS capabilities can address research gaps and serve as a subcontractor or research partner on externally funded projects
• Develop research concepts and contribute to statements of work, study protocols, and other scientific deliverables
• Lead or support scientific dissemination efforts, including manuscripts, abstracts, conference presentations, and collaborative publications
• Support acquisition, transformation, and analysis of large and complex healthcare datasets.
• Generate and review analytical outputs, identify quality issues, conduct root cause analyses, and document findings to ensure scientific rigor and compliance.
• Utilize SAS, SQL, Python, GCP and other analytical tools to manage data and generate insights.
• Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams including epidemiologists, data scientists, clinicians, and external research partners.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience identifying, developing, or supporting externally funded research opportunities and collaborations.
• Experience working with academic investigators, research institutions, or public health organizations.
• 8+ years of experience in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, health outcomes research, or real-world evidence generation.
• Strong understanding of observational study design, epidemiologic methods, and healthcare data sources.
• 5+ years of experience using SAS, SQL, and/or Python.
• Strong scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills.
• Experience preparing research protocols, analytical plans, and scientific documentation.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple research initiatives simultaneously.
• Strong critical thinking, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
• Self-directed with a passion for advancing public health and scientific research.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Epidemiology or related field.
• Demonstrated success contributing to grant applications, cooperative agreements, or externally funded research programs.
• Experience identifying funding opportunities from NIH, FDA, CDC, PCORI, AHRQ, foundations, or other research sponsors.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Experience with pharmacoepidemiology, and real-world evidence.
• Experience developing academic-industry collaborations and multi-stakeholder research partnerships.

Education

PhD in Epidemiology, Health Analytics, Health Informatics, or a related field preferred;

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
