Compounding LabsIntroducing Ourselves

Compounding Labs (“CL”) is a private investment partnership started by Will Thorndike and Kent Weaver in 2021 to build long-term holding companies alongside quality people. As a partnership of entrepreneurs who happen to be investors, our core competency is company building. Distinct from a traditional firm, we are defined by a unique personal capital base, multi-decade time horizon, and highly entrepreneurial ethos. We believe that a relentless focus on equity efficiency, ruthlessly pragmatic resource allocation, and a commitment to continuous improvement maximize our odds of long-term value creation.

Compounding Labs backs young investment professionals from leading firms (current platform CEOs joined from Apollo, Blackstone, Carlyle, Constellation, Elliott, Goldman, TCV, Tiger, and 3G Capital among others) to build their own holding companies in the lower mid-market. We believe that innate talent and motivation beat experience and offer exceptional young candidates the opportunity to take on operational leadership roles and steward capital a decade earlier than a traditional private markets career path. Our culture is deeply meritocratic, and we offer prodigious financial rewards to young professionals who create value.

About the Role

As a Senior Analyst, you will work directly with all members of our team to play an integral role in creating value across the Compounding Labs portfolio. Primary responsibilities will include (i) evaluating industry theses and performing early commercial diligence on potential acquisition targets, (ii) codifying best practices and playbooks to advance institutional knowledge across the portfolio, (iii) supporting investment partners and platform CEOs with discrete initiatives (e.g., debt process, deal structuring, recruiting, etc.), and (iv) preparing quarterly portfolio reporting and annual strategic planning.

The skill set you will build will set you up for a variety of high-reward, long-term opportunities. Exceptional Senior Analysts may launch de novo platform as CEOs, lead business development at scaled platforms, become operating executives, or develop into senior investment professionals within Compounding Labs.

This role is ideally based in Boston or Southern California, but other options can be discussed and will include travel as needed to company locations, partner sites, and other team members.

What We’re Looking For

We hire highly motivated, intellectually curious individuals with an undergraduate degree from a top university, 1-4 years’ experience in investment banking, management consulting, hedge funds, or private equity, and a strong interest in company building, entrepreneurship, and investing. We believe that talent is based on what you can do, not what you have done, and select candidates largely based on raw attributes such as demonstrated excellence, grit, resourcefulness, IQ/EQ, reliability, curiosity, and humility. We also value great communication (written and oral), attention to detail, and intellectual honesty. Most importantly, we’re looking for people with high standards who will raise the bar for our team.

Next Steps

To apply, please upload your resume and complete each of the accompanying questions in the application window to the right. Please limit each response to 100 words or less:

  • In any domain or activity, where do you have the greatest competitive advantage?

  • What is one of the most underrated business ideas or models?

If you can’t tell, we love what we do and we’re incredibly energized by the opportunity to partner with exceptional young talent. We look forward to getting to know you!

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
