About the Team

STR Sensors Division is at the forefront of developing advanced signal processing algorithms and prototyping systems for next-generation radar and electronic warfare technologies.

The STR team is a dynamic group of research engineers.  We collaborate with academic researchers, and industry partners to develop practical and effective solutions to RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges.  Together, we're dedicated to tackling some of the toughest problems faced by our national security-focused clients.

If you're seeking an opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge and creativity to make a lasting impact in national security, we invite you to join us.

The Role:

As an Algorithm & Signal Processing Researcher, you'll have the opportunity to work with a team on the development and demonstration of state-of-the-art algorithms and techniques for signal detection, classification, radar electronic warfare, electronic support measures, and more.

What you will do:

  • Design and apply cutting-edge signal processing and machine learning techniques to solve complex radar and RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges
  • Work with the team to develop and integrate countermeasures (including algorithm development and signal processing) and evaluate their effectiveness in laboratories, over the air, and on government test ranges
  • Design and implement models and simulations for advanced RF systems.  Analyze test data and apply results to refine system models

Who you are:

  • This position requires the ability to obtain an active Secret security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required by the U.S. Government
  • PhD, MS, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline
  • 2-5+ years of relevant experience depending on your degree (BS +5 years,  MS +3 years, or PhD)
  • 2+ years of experience in two or more of the following areas:
    • RF/radar signal processing, optimization, waveform design, electronic warfare, machine learning, adaptive signal processing, algorithm development, model & simulation,
  • Proficiency in in one or more scientific or mathematical programming languages, such as MATLAB, Python, and C/C++
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills

Even Better:

  • Active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience with:
    • RF technologies in the defense sector, particularly for sensing and electronic warfare applications including electronic attack, electronic protection, cognitive EW, and advanced ESM techniques and algorithms
    • Experience with machine learning tasks such as natural language processing, image recognition, semantic segmentation, reinforcement learning, approaches such as Bayesian, deep convolutional and graph neural network methods, and tools such as PyTorch, Ray, TensorFlow/board, and MLflow
  • Ability to apply novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems
  • Ability to create and present briefings to customers and senior management to provide both high-level and deep technical solution explanations

Join us and be part of a team that's making an impact at the forefront of technology and innovation.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
