About the Role

Chime’s AI/ML team is building models, services, and platforms that transform how millions of users manage and grow their financial lives. We’re looking for a Senior AI/ML Engineer with deep expertise in production-grade deep learning systems—someone who thrives at the intersection of cutting-edge research and real-world impact.

As a Senior AI/ML Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in protecting our members and platform from fraud, abuse, and financial risk. You’ll take end-to-end ownership of building, deploying, and scaling deep learning systems that ensure a secure, seamless experience for our members. Beyond individual model development, you’ll partner with stakeholders across Risk, Product, and Engineering to create holistic solutions that balance fraud mitigation with trust and usability.

You’ll also help define the infrastructure, tooling, and standards that enable rapid, reliable deployment of advanced models—while mentoring teammates and influencing AI/ML best practices across the organization.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $176,490 and up to $245,100. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Own the full ML lifecycle: design, train, deploy, monitor, and iterate on deep learning models in production environments.
  • Deliver robust, scalable ML systems that proactively detect and mitigate fraud, abuse, and financial risks.
  • Analyze large-scale structured and unstructured datasets to surface patterns and power AI/ML applications.
  • Apply advanced deep learning techniques—including transformer-based models and generative architectures—to tackle high-risk, high-impact problems.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, and Risk teams to convert model insights into real-world member impact.
  • Shape the infrastructure, standards, and tooling that enable faster, safer ML deployment across the organization.
  • Mentor engineers, lead design discussions, and champion a culture of technical excellence in deep learning.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 5+ years of experience in ML engineering, with a strong track record of building and deploying deep learning systems in production. This includes designing, training, and scaling neural network models—especially transformer-based architectures—into reliable services.
  • Proven expertise in deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and operationalizing models on cloud-native infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with unstructured data (e.g., text, images, documents) and vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone).
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, and experience using distributed compute frameworks (e.g., Spark, Ray, Airflow).
  • Familiarity with LLMs (e.g., GPT, LLaMA, Claude) and modern techniques such as fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is a plus.
  • A systems mindset—balancing model quality, latency, monitoring, and maintainability for long-term success.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical efforts into measurable business value.
  • A track record of mentoring peers, setting technical standards, and scaling deep learning best practices.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
