Job Description

Are you ready to make a profound impact and be part of a team dedicated to transforming lives? St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital invites passionate individuals to join us as Senior Advisor - Major Gifts (Philanthropic) This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with high-net-worth donors and play a vital role in securing major gifts that drive our mission forward.

As a Senior Advisor Philanthropic, you will be at the forefront of our philanthropic efforts, responsible for cultivating relationships, soliciting major gifts, and stewarding complex donations. Your strategic approach will help us achieve our revenue goals and make a real difference in the lives of children battling life-threatening diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Build Meaningful Relationships: Utilize your fundraising expertise and interpersonal skills to establish genuine connections with donors, their families, and advisors from diverse backgrounds. Your focus will be on soliciting significant gifts at the Major Gift level of $25,000+, with an emphasis on gifts of $100,000+.

2. Manage a Dynamic Portfolio: Oversee a portfolio of at least 150 key individual donors. Conduct personal visits and maintain critical contacts with potential donors, with a specific emphasis on engaging multicultural high-wealth donors within your assigned area and territory.

3. Leverage Technology: Harness the power of donor management software to capture essential details that inform donor strategies. Maintain meticulous records of donor interactions, complete reports, and ensure efficient trip planning to maximize engagement.

4. Strategic Planning: Analyze your donor portfolio to optimize trip planning and time management, aiming to exceed donor contact and solicitation goals set by the organization. Seek opportunities to go above and beyond.

5. Financial Responsibility: Exercise discretion and fiduciary responsibility when handling cash, checks, and in-kind donations, adhering to ALSAC policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with the Gift Acceptance Policy manual.

6. Stay Informed: Stay updated on tax laws affecting charitable giving, personal assets, and estates. Maintain knowledge of culturally relevant funding opportunities to effectively collaborate with donors from diverse backgrounds.

7. Follow-up and Gift Planning: Provide ongoing support to prospects and donors, guiding them through the gift planning process. Prepare and present gift proposals and contracts.

8. Continuous Learning: Attend in person and virtual meetings, including some evenings and working meals, to foster professional growth. Be willing to travel outside your assigned territory to support colleagues and the National Executive Office.

9. Collaboration: Maintain open communication with territory leadership, the National Executive Office, and support team members. Collaborate across ALSAC divisions to enhance the donor experience, including making presentations to community groups, attending events, and maintaining a team first mentality.

10. Effective Communication: Demonstrate strong and positive communication skills. Stay current with industry trends, processes, and policies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of St. Jude's mission, research, and patient care, representing ALSAC/St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital with pride.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of development practices and principles or a successful track record in managing and closing gift/sales prospects.
  • Ability to forge authentic relationships with high wealth prospects, executives, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and management skills within a complex environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • 6 years of proven major gift/sales experience, bachelors degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal, telephone, and video conferencing skills.
  • Ability to comprehend complex verbal and written instructions and work with data processing applications.
  • Travel Commitments: Travel locally within the New England area to meet with donors in person, attend and support St. Jude events, and invest in community-based discovery and prospecting activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys engaging with the community and building relationships face-to-face. (National, weekends, and evenings travel when required.)
  • Work Location: This position is remote work eligible within the Greater Boston, MA area. While primarily home-based, the role requires occasional visits to our Boston office for team collaboration or meetings and periodic travel to Memphis, TN for enterprise, divisional, or donor-related events, averaging 4–6 trips per year.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for this role.
