Manulife Investment Management Timberland and Agriculture Inc (MIMTA) invests in timberland and agricultural land on behalf of its clients. The Client Reporting Group is responsible for the preparation of client financial reports in accordance with US GAAP, maintenance of systems and accounting records, client general ledgers, internal and external financial reporting, FASB accounting compliance, tax and REIT compliance, financial statement audit coordination, GIPS performance measurement compliance, cash management, customer service, supporting other business units on projects, and the establishment, review and adherence to internal controls.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of quarterly client financial statements and audited year-end financial statements
  • Calculation of client advisory fees and performance returns
  • Analyze operating cash requirements; calculate and propose cash distributions; prepare and communicate capital contribution requests and distribution notifications to investors
  • Preparation of journal entries, monthly and quarterly reconciliations, and analysis of various general ledger accounts
  • Preparation of quarterly and year-end audit and tax schedules, quarterly income tax accruals for taxable entities, quarterly REIT asset and income tests
  • Respond to recurring investor requests and ad-hoc reports for investors as needed
  • Assist in annual Sarbanes-Oxley walkthrough and compliance testing

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience with a university degree in accounting
  • Investment accounting experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with high proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task within a growing company in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision after sufficient training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IFRS reporting experience a plus and tax experience a plus, including US GAAP ASC 740
  • Familiarity with partnership and real estate investment accounting and tax principles, including REIT concepts considered a plus
  • Experience with Essbase, Great Plains or Prophix considered a plus
  • Tax or audit public accounting experience considered a plus

Salary range is expected to be between

$73,350.00 USD - $122,250.00 USD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
