Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is a key member of UTEC’s Finance team responsible for independently managing complex accounting activities and helping ensure accurate, timely, well-supported, and audit-ready financial records.
This role leads assigned components of the monthly and annual close, owns designated complex balance-sheet, prepares and reviews selected journal entries, and supports analysis of monthly financial statements for the Controller. The Senior Accountant also serves as a technical accounting resource, supports audits, treasury activities, accounts payable, payroll backup, and subsidiary reporting, owns fixed asset accounting, and helps strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead assigned components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for UTEC, Inc. and its two subsidiaries.
- Own designated complex balance-sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items timely.
- Prepare and review selected journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Support analysis of monthly financial statements and unusual account activity for Controller review.
- Prepare selected revenue-recognition entries, deferred-revenue schedules, and pledge reconciliations, subject to Controller approval.
- Review and approve accounts payable entries for accuracy, documentation, coding, and compliance.
- Select and prepare the weekly listing of invoices proposed for payment for Controller review and approval.
- Review and document bank reconciliation processes, monitor cash activity, and investigate unusual transactions.
- Support cash forecasting, liquidity management, banking administration, and investment-related reporting.
- Upload approved disbursements to the bank in accordance with established controls.
- Provide backup payroll processing support, including related accounting entries, and process payroll at least twice annually to maintain proficiency.
- Maintain fixed asset records, reconciliations, depreciation, disposals, and supporting documentation.
- Support quarterly subsidiary closes, annual consolidation, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Prepare selected audit schedules and coordinate supporting documentation.
- Act as credit card administrator and support related accounting controls.
- Identify recurring errors, documentation gaps, and internal-control weaknesses and support practical improvements.
- Serve as an experienced Sage Intacct user and support accounting workflow and system improvements.
- Provide technical guidance and training to Staff Accountants without formal supervisory responsibility.
- Support special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent directly relevant experience.
- At least four years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
- Experience with monthly close, complex reconciliations, journal entries, revenue accounting, accounts payable, treasury support, payroll processing, fixed assets, and audit support.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with Sage Intacct or a similar accounting system.
- Ability to independently research discrepancies and bring issues through resolution.
- Strong judgment, organization, communication, attention to detail, and follow through.
- Experience in a government-funded human services organization or similarly complex nonprofit strongly preferred.
Compensation:
The salary range is $80,000–$85,000.
