Physical Security Department

The North America Physical Security Department is focused on delivering a best-in-class security program aligned with Vantage’s vision of becoming the leading industry physical security data center provider. Our mission is to safeguard our data center environments through comprehensive, scalable, and standardized physical security processes that deter threats, promote rapid incident response, ensure regulatory compliance, and support Vantage’s rapid growth.

The department leads all physical security efforts across North America, ensuring that every Vantage data center operates within a consistent, scalable, and standardized security framework. Our teams design and implement physical security programs, systems, and processes that deter threats, strengthen site resiliency, and enable rapid response to incidents. We partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Construction, IT, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that physical security is embedded into every phase of the asset lifecycle and supports Vantage’s rapid expansion.

Position Overview

Vantage Physical Security department is looking for a forward-thinking, results-oriented, innovative Security Systems Design Engineer for the NA region, possessing expert-level knowledge and experience in complex physical security system designs including campus and building protection, fence and hostile vehicle mitigation, access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection. As the Security Systems Design Engineer, you will work closely with all internal and external stakeholders as the physical security lead design expert for electronic security systems designs for existing and future projects. Your primary focus will be consistent delivering physical system design packages compliant with Vantage Security standards, while incorporating approved client requirements.

The position will directly engage and effectively communicate with Design Engineering, Construction, and Installation vendors, as well as Security engineers, throughout the design process. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to coordinate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders and be comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic global environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborate effectively with Physical Security Engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of physical security designs.
  • Exemplify proficiency with management of numerous and complex, fast-paced, large-scale, enterprise-level security system design projects, typically with multiple, overlapping deadlines and stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate with other industry professionals in one-on-one, small, and large group settings.
  • Understand impacts of design decisions, balancing Vantage security policy, national and local code and regulations, client requirements, costs, and quality.
  • Operate in a positive team environment to share knowledge, further development, and increase skill sets and proficiency.

Duties

  • Manage physical security designs for new and remediation projects throughout North America.
  • Participate in the selection of security EORs (engineers of record) for the design of security systems on North America design projects.
  • Schedule and host security design kickoff meetings.
  • Manage EORs contracted to produce physical security designs to ensure on-time delivery and output consistency of design package submittals.
  • Maintain and enforce Vantage design program standards and requirements throughout North America.
  • Ensure approved client requirements are accurately represented in security design documents.
  • Apply focused, innovative, conceptual, and detailed security solutions to meet unique design challenges, and to ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Ensure all security coordination items with other disciplines are accomplished at the appropriate design stages.
  • Oversee production of security programming matrices by security designers, ensuring accuracy and agreement with security design drawings.
  • Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) during the design phase of new and remediation projects.
  • Assist in coordination with Vantage IT as necessary to ensure the provision of required security network equipment and video archive storage servers.
  • Establish, attend, and/or host recurring security coordination meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with Vantage Construction concerning projected dates for design completion and handoff of all required design documents.
  • Collaborate with Vantage Physical Security personnel for review and approval of security system component changes.
  • Review and provide commentary on security standards document revisions as required.
  • Assist in restricting accessibility to security design and security standards documentation.
  • Produce and/or provide input on new design diagrams as required to keep security design drawings up to date with security product or design changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience of Access Control, Intrusion Detection and Alarm, and Video Surveillance and Management Systems is required.
  • 5+ years of experience designing Access Control, Intrusion Detection and Alarm, Video Intercom, and Video Surveillance and Management Systems is required.
  • 5+ years of experience managing numerous and complex, fast-paced, large-scale, enterprise-level security system design projects with multiple, overlapping deadlines and stakeholders is required.
  • Data Center design and/or installation experience is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Excellent time management skill is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Current Genetec Enterprise Design certification is preferred but not required.
  • Expertise with installation of Access Control, Intrusion Detection and Alarm, and Video Surveillance and Management Systems is preferred but not required.
  • In-depth, technical knowledge and experience with design and/or installation of IP networking, structured cabling, and electronic door hardware is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts (IP addresses, MAC addresses, etc.) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with two-way radio systems is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines is required.
  • Ability to work remotely (e.g., home office), with minimal supervision, as a motivated self-starter who takes initiative and personal responsibility and ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite of products is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English is required.
  • Fluency in speaking and writing in any languages (besides English) commonly used throughout NA such as, but not limited to, German, Polish, Italian, Spanish, and French, is preferred but not required.
  • Travel is expected to be less than 25% but may be higher at times depending on various factors such as complexity and quantity of consecutive design projects.

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
