The Engine opened its doors in June of 2017 to founders of early-stage companies working on disruptive technology. Founded by MIT, The Engine’s mission is to provide infrastructure, resources, and comprehensive support to help founders build the next generation of world-changing companies. We operate two buildings that serve as a home for Tough Tech companies that include offices, meeting spaces, bio & chem labs, and maker/fabrication space.
About the Role
The Sales Manager will be responsible for driving the growth of our business by identifying new opportunities, building relationships with potential resident teams, and developing strategic partnerships. This role requires a proactive and results-driven individual who can strategize, negotiate, and close deals effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and generate leads and build a pipeline of business opportunities
- Research and identify industry trends and potential strategic partners
- Develop and implement strategies to identify and attract Tough Tech startups
- Develop and implement strategies to expand existing accounts
- Establish and nurture relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders
- Conduct meetings, presentations, and negotiations with potential teams or partners
- Provide exceptional customer service to retain and grow relationships
- Address customer inquiries and resolve issues to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop business strategies and goals
- Develop and implement strategies for customer retention and growth
- Create and execute business development plans to meet targets and objectives
- Analyze market conditions and competitors to inform strategic decisions
- Set sales targets and create detailed plans to meet and exceed them
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve company goals and revenue targets
- Develop and present proposals, contracts, and pricing strategies to senior management
- Negotiate terms and close deals to achieve revenue targets
- Monitor sales performance and adjust strategies as needed to ensure success
- Work closely with marketing, and other departments, to align business development efforts with company goals
- Provide feedback and insights to improve products and services based on market and resident team needs
- Collaborate across organization on strategic priorities as needed
- Track and report on business development activities, sales metrics, and competitor activities to stay ahead of market changes and/or trends
- Prepare regular reports for senior management on progress, challenges, and opportunities
Job Qualifications & Requirements:
- Motivated by The Engine’s mission to enable tough tech entrepreneurs to create world-changing companies
- Minimum 5-7 years of direct industry experience in “tough tech” (biotech, high tech, industrial products, green energy)
- BS or MS in a science or engineering discipline preferred
- Curious and comfortable with diverse engineering and scientific disciplines
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills: Has the ability to clearly communicate with a variety of people (e.g. corporate partners, founders, and other stakeholders)
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented
- Significant network and excellent reputation
- Highly adaptable and excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to triangulate market dynamics, specific company interests, and individual stakeholders, within various Tough Tech industries
