The Sales Engineer ensures a complete understanding of client technical requirements and translates them into actionable implementation plans. This role includes working with both sales and engineering teams to identify gaps, plan implementations, and develop demos or proof-of-concepts to showcase product capabilities.
We are seeking a highly technical and client-focused Sales Engineer to join our team, reporting directly to the VP of Sales. This critical role acts as the technical bridge between our Sales, Implementation, Product, and Engineering teams, specifically supporting our flagship Retain product.
This is not a traditional quota-carrying role. Your success will be measured by your ability to ensure a complete and accurate understanding of client technical requirements during the sales cycle and to translate those needs seamlessly into an actionable implementation plan. You will ensure that what is promised can be delivered, accelerating the time-to-value for our customers.
You'll need to be comfortable working directly with and presenting to clients; leading technical discussions and demonstrating capabilities to non-technical stakeholders. As a liaison between Sales and Product & Technology teams, you'll help identify & communicate potential product opportunities based on customer needs.
What You'll Do:
- Requirements Translation: Work closely with the Sales team to clearly capture and validate complex technical and business requirements from prospective clients for the Retain product.
- Implementation Planning: Translate validated requirements into preliminary, well-defined technical scope documents and initial implementation strategies.
- Gap Analysis: Identify and clearly articulate any technical or functional gaps between client needs and the current capabilities of the Retain product to both sales and product leadership.
- Deep Product Knowledge: Maintain expert-level understanding of the Retain product architecture, APIs, integration capabilities, and deployment options.
- Implementation Escalation: Handle basic to intermediate technical tasks that are above the skillset of the Implementation team but necessary for pre-sales validation or initial setup, ensuring a smooth handoff.
- Demo & Proof-of-Concept (POC) Development: Code simple, impactful demos, prototypes, or customized proof-of-concept environments to showcase the product's capabilities and value proposition to prospective clients.
Who You Are (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in a highly technical role such as Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Technical Consultant, or a development/implementation role with client exposure.
- Proven ability to gather, document, and translate complex technical requirements into concrete implementation plans.
- Strong foundational understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), data structures, and APIs (REST/GraphQL).
- Ability to perform simple scripting or coding tasks (e.g., Python, JavaScript) for demo creation or proof-of-concept development.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify technical concepts for executive audiences.
- Experience working in a SaaS or B2B software environment.
- A passion for problem-solving and a natural inclination to prioritize technical accuracy over sales urgency.
- Experience with deployment environments (cloud, on-premise) and security protocols.
