We are Toro TMS, a growth-stage startup working to build the modern operating system for trucking. Our focus is squarely on building the best-in-class, end-to-end transportation management software (TMS) for bulk commodity haulers. 

About the role

As a Sales Development Representative, you will play a key role as the tip of the spear in our growing sales organization. You will receive training from and work closely with our experienced sales team to become both a product expert and a sales pro. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to build a career in software sales or for anyone who is interested in working in an early stage start-up. 

You will be responsible for generating and qualifying new opportunities for our Account Executives to convert into customers. You will create this pipeline using a combination of prospecting tools and techniques, including cold calls, email campaigns, and responding to inbound leads. You’ll have the opportunity to master sales skills in a fast-paced environment that supports professional development. 

This role is an in-office role; you will be expected to work out of Toro’s downtown Chicago office 5 days a week. 

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage cold outreach skills and build relationships with carriers 
  • Exhibit professionalism as the initial point of contact representing Toro 
  • Conduct discovery calls to qualify or disqualify leads 
  • Collaborate with the Account Executive Team for strategic outreach and effective handoff
  • Become a product and industry expert
  • Understand the competitive landscape and determine how to best position Toro 
  • Consistently achieve monthly quota of qualified opportunities and sourced ARR

Skills / Experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a customer facing position; sales, retail, service industry, recruiting, customer support, etc.  
  • Desire to work in a fast paced startup environment 
  • Willingness to learn and be coached, ability to handle feedback
  • Ambitious, career-oriented
  • Logistics and Transportation knowledge is a plus 
  • Experience with cold calling or door-to-door sales is a plus
