Sales Development Representative
  • Location: Remote (US, Central or Eastern business hours)
  • Compensation: $55,000 base + $15,000 target variable ($70,000 OTE)
  • Start Date: ASAP
About the Role

At Scientific Safety Alliance (SSA), we support services that companies need to operate.

We work with pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare, aerospace, semiconductor, data center, research, and advanced manufacturing environments where compliance is mandatory.

This is not a passive lead-routing role. The Sales Development Representative is the first person every new lead talks to.

Customers come to SSA needing cleanroom certification, biological safety cabinet certification, fume hood testing, viable sampling, compressed air testing, laboratory equipment calibration, and TAB-related services. Many are under a deadline and don’t know exactly what they need.

Your job is to respond fast, figure out what the customer needs, get qualified opportunities to the right Account Executive, and open new accounts through outbound. When a deal is small, you close it yourself.

You’ll build pipeline through:
  • Fast response and qualification of every inbound call, email, and web form
  • Clean handoffs to Account Executives with the context they need to win
  • Daily outbound calling and outbound campaigns into hospitals, pharmacies, and labs
  • Closing smaller deals yourself, start to finish
  • Disciplined follow-up and pipeline management in HubSpot

We operate in a fragmented market with limited scaled competition and inconsistent service quality from incumbents. Customers value responsiveness, documentation, scheduling reliability, and trusted compliance support. Speed wins here. The company that calls back first often gets the work.

You do not need industry experience to succeed here. We will teach you the services and the market. What matters is urgency, organization, and a willingness to pick up the phone.

Why This Role is Great
  • A real sales job with real pipeline and real deals, not a cold list and a script
  • Sell mandatory services, not discretionary spend
  • Inbound demand from marketing, so you talk to buyers from day one
  • Close smaller deals yourself and earn on them
  • Clear path to Account Executive for top performers
  • Uncapped commission, with the biggest payouts on new business you source

What You’ll Do Respond to and Qualify Inbound Leads
  • Respond to every new inbound call, email, and web form within the hour
  • Qualify by phone and email: what service they need, where, when, and who decides
  • Hand qualified opportunities to the right Account Executive with clean notes and clear next steps
Build Outbound Pipeline
  • Run a daily outbound call block into hospitals, pharmacies, research labs, and manufacturers
  • Support outbound campaigns with calls, emails, and follow-up on targeted account lists
  • Book meetings for Account Executives with new accounts
Close Smaller Deals
  • Own deals under $2,500 start to finish: scope, quote, follow up, win
  • Hand anything larger to the right Account Executive
  • Coordinate with scheduling and operations so the work gets done right
Run a Disciplined Pipeline
  • Keep every lead, next step, and follow-up date current in HubSpot
  • Follow up consistently. No lead sits.
  • Track progress against pipeline and activity goals
What We’re Looking For
  • At least 6 months in a role with phone work and targets: SDR, inside sales, outbound calling, recruiting, call center, or retail sales
  • Urgency. You follow up today, not tomorrow
  • Organization. You manage dozens of open conversations without dropping one
  • Comfortable picking up the phone and calling someone who isn’t expecting you
  • Clear, confident writing and phone presence
  • Coachable. You want feedback and act on it
  • Comfortable working independently from home with a reliable setup
  • HubSpot or other CRM experience a plus; Spanish a plus

No industry experience required. We’ll train you.

Our dream is to accelerate science. Delightfully. We are building the leading integrated safety partner to health and science organizations.

Benefits
  • Equity ownership in SSA; every employee has a stake in the company
  • 401(k) match
  • 100% paid Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Generous paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Professional growth opportunities

If you move fast, stay organized, and want to get into real sales, this is a role where you can build pipeline, close deals, and grow into an Account Executive at SSA.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
