About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
As a key member of an interdisciplinary team, the Research Assistant will be responsible for completing complex tasks related to the research in the Laboratory of Neurobiology. In particular, the Research Assistant will perform experiments in behavioral neurobiology using established procedures and further developing existing protocols; collect and analyze large data sets; adhere to the principles of Good Laboratory Practice; assist in the preparation of figures for manuscripts and grant proposals; participate in training of undergraduate researchers; maintain lab equipment, order supplies, and contribute to the care of the lab’s fish stock. The Research Assistant will work closely with other scientists in the lab and report directly to the Principal Investigator. There will be the opportunity to co-author scientific publications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Experimentation: Setting up and performing experiments involving live fish; recording data.
Data management and analysis: Management of large data sets; analysis of the data using specialized software, custom-written MATLAB scripts, and SPSS.
Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of experiments.
Preparation of figures for manuscripts: Preparing figures for scientific publications using EXCEL and CorelDraw.
Animal care: Maintaining the lab’s stock of tropical fish.
Research support: Interacting with other scientists and assisting the Principal Investigator with other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of science (e.g., biology, behavioral neuroscience) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a research lab setting. Attention to detail, strong organizational and quantitative skills, as well as the ability to work both on a self-directed basis and in a team are essential.

$47,890.00 - $65,848.75With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
