We are seeking an experienced leader who combines traditional project management responsibilities with the Release Train Engineer role in a scaled Agile environment. This person coordinates multiple teams, including development and operational teams, drives program-level planning and delivery, removes impediments, manages risks and dependencies, and ensures alignment between business objectives and technical execution across the Agile Release Train (ART).
Responsibilities:
- Lead and facilitate PI (Program Increment) planning events, including logistics, agenda, objectives, and follow-up actions.
- For operational teams help establish kanban ways of working and reporting for upper level management
- Act as the servant leader and coach for one or more Agile teams and the ART; foster Agile mindsets and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate cross-team dependencies and synchronize delivery across development and operational teams (IT Ops, SRE, Support, Security, QA/Release Operations, Cloud/Platform) to meet program goals and milestones.
- Manage program-level schedules, scope, budgets, milestones and resource allocation; track progress and report on status to stakeholders.
- Facilitate ART ceremonies for non-Kanban teams: PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, ART Sync, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and retrospectives.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve impediments and risks; drive removal of blockers in collaboration with teams and stakeholders, including operational groups responsible for production readiness and runbook handovers.
- Maintain program/risk registers, dependency boards, and release roadmaps; keep transparency of delivery health and metrics.
- Drive continuous improvement of processes, tooling, and delivery quality; support adoption of DevOps practices, CI/CD, automated testing and runbook automation where applicable.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Product Owners, System Architects, Business Owners and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities, acceptance criteria, release scope and operational readiness.
- Manage release cadence and coordinate deploys to environments; work closely with release management, platform/ops, security and compliance teams for gating, approvals, change control and rollback plans.
- Prepare and present program-level reports, dashboards and executive updates (risks, progress, KPIs like predictability, flow, velocity).
- Mentor and develop Scrum Masters, project managers and team leads; promote talent growth and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements and audit readiness as relevant.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in project/program management and at least 2–3 years in an RTE, Scrum Master or Agile coach role in a scaled Agile environment.
- Solid understanding of Agile frameworks (SAFe, LeSS, Spotify model or similar) and experience running PI planning and program-level ceremonies.
- Experience implementing and operating Kanban systems at team or program level; skilled in using Kanban for flow-based delivery, WIP limits, and continuous improvement.
- Experience working with operational teams and coordinating production readiness, incident handovers and change control.
- Strong knowledge of software delivery lifecycle, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and release management.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex programs, coordinate across distributed teams, and influence without direct authority.
- Proficiency with Agile planning and tracking tools (e.g., Jira/Confluence, VersionOne, Rally), and common productivity tools (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong problem-solving, risk management and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification
- PMP, PgMP or similar project management certification.
- Experience in regulated industries (pharma, medical devices, finance) and familiarity with compliance and validation processes.
