Job Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Regional Commodity Lead Buyer to oversee the procurement of key commodities (Tooling and Capex) within the region. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring cost-effective procurement of high-quality materials. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong negotiation skills, market knowledge, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
  • Lead and mentor divisional buyers within the region.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

Strategic Sourcing:
  • Develop and implement regional sourcing strategies for assigned commodities to optimize cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the commodity perimeter.
  • Support division to select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and sustainability criteria.
  • Lead the qualification & development of new suppliers and the exit of outgoing suppliers
  • In coordination with Operational Purchasing, develop and execute divisional cost savings initiatives & risk mitigation strategies on existing business to achieve annual savings budgets
  • Utilize a total cost approach to optimizing piece prices for new and existing business in the assigned commodities. Tactics to include program bundling, global sourcing & leverage, dual sourcing, tariff & USMCA duty mitigation, specification / tolerance / material changes, process optimization, VAVE, logistics & packaging optimization, payment term improvement.
  • Minimize collective risk thru favorable raw material, currency adjustment mechanisms

Supplier Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships and alignment with business goals.
  • Negotiate Frame contracts to achieve cost savings and mitigate risks.
  • Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist Magna MML divisions in establishing Nomination Letters and supplier giveback terms
  • Become expert in your defined space, able to understand and communicate micro and macroeconomic influences and develop strategies to either mitigate or benefit. Able to fully understand and communicate the complete cost structure of each supplier, including capital investment & its amortization, utilization rates, spare capacity, incoming raw material, etc.
  • Manage the relationship with each supplier thru regular business & roadmap reviews and disciplined contract management (NDA, Terms & Conditions, Nominations Letters, Settlement Agreements, etc.)
  • Able to construct complex excel models for estimating and simulating any business issue

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with divisional stakeholders to align procurement strategies with business objectives.
  • Support new product development by ensuring timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials.
  • Work in a cross functional team in support of the assigned commodities, including Program Management, Engineering, Production Control and Logistics, Supplier Quality Development and Quality departments
  • Keep senior Magna MML management informed of critical issues through clear and concise communications

Compliance and Sustainability:
  • Follow Magna's Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna's Charter and Constitution.

  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF).
  • Promote sustainability initiatives by working with suppliers to reduce environmental impact.

Job Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
  • Education: University or Business Degree and/or Community College graduate or equivalency in education and experience would be considered a strong asset. Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, with a focus on commodities. Supervisory or Managerial experience (2-5 years) would be considered a strong asset
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of commodity markets, pricing trends, and supply chain dynamics. Previous experience in a automotive environment is considered a plus

  • Strategic thinking and decision-making.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced changing environment and meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Excel, Word and computer working knowledge required
