About Eyebot

Eyebot is an outcome-focused technology company on a mission to make vision care accessible to everyone, equally. Headquartered in Boston’s North End and backed by top investors and the National Science Foundation, our vision test kiosk is reshaping how vision care is delivered.

If you are passionate about solving big problems and building the future of vision care, we would love to hear from you.

About The Role

We are looking for a multidisciplinary R&D engineer to advance the accuracy and automation of our kiosks and strengthen our algorithms. You'll work closely with our engineering team to refine concepts and bring meaningful improvements to our kiosks. This role involves consistent collaboration with our research and development and software engineering teams.

Note: This is a full-time, onsite role based in Boston’s North End. We work together five days a week to support rapid prototyping and cross-functional collaboration.

What You’ll Do:
  • Work hands-on to advance the accuracy, reliability, and automation of Eyebot’s vision-testing technologies.

  • Design, prototype, and evaluate new algorithms across computer vision, machine learning, optical estimation, and signal processing.

  • Translate research concepts into deployable software by collaborating closely with our software engineering team.

  • Build experimental setups, electromechanical test rigs, and simulation tools to validate ideas in both controlled and real-world conditions.

  • Develop benchmarking frameworks and performance metrics to rigorously evaluate our imaging, detection, and recommendation pipelines.

  • Explore and compare traditional computer-vision techniques with ML-based approaches; drive decision-making with clear technical evidence.

  • Run structured experiments to identify sources of variation, improve robustness, and strengthen the scientific foundations of Eyebot’s core products.

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations to translate scientific insights into product-level improvements.

What We're Looking For:Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of post-bachelor’s research or industry experience (postdoctoral experience may be included).

  • Programming experience (Python, C++, or similar)

  • Experience in vision systems and image processing.

  • Experience building and designing experiments.

  • Hands on experience with,

    • Embedded linux platforms (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, etc.)

    • Image sensor, camera interfaces, general optical alignment

    • Prototyping with 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with medical device development and compliance.

  • Background in optical calibration methodologies.

  • Experience with real world machine learning techniques.

  • Strong documentation habits, including the ability to clearly record design decisions, test results, and calibration procedures.

Personality
  • You are energized by fast-paced environments and excited to grow with a startup that is scaling quickly.

  • You take ownership of your work and care deeply about quality.

  • You hold yourself and your teammates to a high bar.

  • You follow through on commitments and take responsibility for outcomes.

  • You bring a low ego, collaborative mindset. You are easy to work with, open to feedback, and able to keep perspective even when things don't go according to plan.
