Job Title:                Quantum Engineer, Quantum Computing Services
Job Type:                 Full-time
Job Location:          Boston, MA
Reports to:            VP of Quantum Computing Services

Summary:

QuEra is seeking a Quantum Engineer to join a growing effort focused on developing, testing and deploying experimental protocols and benchmarks to support pilot projects and product offerings on QuEra’s neutral-atom quantum computers, bridging the gap between quantum applications and experimental realizations. This is a critical effort to guarantee machine performance, as well as inform algorithm development for near-term applications and commercial use. Your work will directly shape how QuEra’s quantum computers are characterized and utilized, laying the foundation for applications in digital quantum computing using neutral atoms.

In this role, you will work closely with physicists, software engineers, hardware specialists and actual quantum computers across QuEra’s global sites. You will be responsible for designing efficient measurements of key system parameters, translating component error sources into their effect on algorithm performance, and collaborating with internal and external users to improve quantum circuit design for neutral-atom QPUs.

This role is part of QuEra’s Quantum Computing Services team and is based at QuEra’s Boston headquarters. The team’s mission is to develop QuEra’s neutral-atom technology into cutting-edge quantum computing products and services.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design data-efficient experimental routines, robust data analyses and troubleshooting workflows to extract key system parameters and insights.
  • Collaborate with users in co-designed experimental projects to expand product capabilities through hardware-aware quantum circuit simulation and algorithm development.
  • Build QEC and error mitigation implementations that will be applied to QuEra’s products and services.
  • Develop tutorials, example documentation and demonstrations of our neutral atom hardware and software stacks.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong proficiency in Python, including experience with data analysis and visualization libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib).
  • Hands-on experience working with real experimental or measurement data, including noise handling, curve fitting, and model validation.
  • Comfort working in a hardware-facing environment, integrating software with lab instruments, data acquisition systems, or experimental control frameworks.
  • Operational knowledge of classical quantum simulation tools including state-vector, tensor-network, and stabilizer/tableau simulation methods.
  • Familiarity with the principles and methods associated with quantum simulation, quantum machine learning, quantum optimization, quantum chemistry, and/or quantum information science.
  • Solid understanding of version control (Git) and structured software development practices (testing, modularity, documentation).
  • Experience writing production-level code, which conforms to style and testing requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, scientific curiosity, and a willingness to learn new physical systems quickly.
  • Eager to grow from a capable engineer into a domain expert in quantum computation with neutral-atoms.
  • Enjoys hands-on experimentation, iteration, and data analysis.
  • Comfortable working across abstraction layers, from analyzing raw voltage traces to designing implementable quantum programs.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex topics to mostly-technical audiences from varying academic fields and industry sectors.
  • Collaborative and adaptable; able to operate in an interdisciplinary environment spanning theory, software, and hardware teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing efficient benchmarks of noisy quantum hardware, with exposure to concepts in quantum characterization, verification , and validation (QCVV).
  • Proven demonstration of expertise in the areas of quantum applications, quantum error correction or quantum information science, by way of co-authored publications and presentations.
  • History of creating clear and concise tutorials and examples about, e.g. quantum SKDs, hardware operation, experimental demonstrations, etc.
  • Exposure to compiler frameworks within the context of quantum program implementation.
  • Familiarity with running processes in Kubernetes and/or Docker for robust quantum hardware operation.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or rust.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Candidates with diverse or nontraditional backgrounds who demonstrate strong programming and analytical skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience or exposure to experimental research, data-driven system optimization, or hardware-software integration (through research, internships, or personal projects) is a strong plus.

Salary is commensurate based on experience
