Position Description:
GMO is seeking a quantitative researcher to join our Systematic Equity Team. The candidate will work closely with researchers and portfolio managers to support the team’s rigorous research agenda. The team’s research process is structured to analyze significant amounts of historic, current, and projected financial characteristics as well as detailed macroeconomic data. This individual will work closely with other members of the team on various research and investment related topics. This will include model-building, data cleaning, portfolio analysis and integration with all available GMO data sources. This position is located in our Boston office with the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities:
•Work closely with team members to develop and to support investment research projects.
•Enhance and expand our processes by conducting deep research on targeted projects using state-of-the-art modeling techniques.
•Develop creative investment ideas independently and articulate why those ideas fit into our process.
•Conduct in-depth financial accounting and capital markets research to support equity investment strategies.
•Develop and implement quantitative models using a variety of valuation techniques, such as dividend discount models and free cash-flow models.
•Design and implement solutions to make a positive impact on the investment research and analysis environment, and to increase efficiency, depth, breadth, and throughput of quantitative research capabilities.
•Enhance both our bottom-up and top-down valuation models used for identifying investment opportunities.
•Work closely with colleagues in Technology, Investment Data Solutions and across other investment teams to enhance existing databases and quantitative processes.
•Support portfolio managers with ad-hoc research requests.
•Provide support for portfolio construction and management activities.
•Participate in periodic portfolio rebalancing.
•Monitor portfolio positions and risk exposures and work with the execution team on trading strategies and analysis.
Required Skills and Characteristics:
•The ideal candidate will have 5-8+ years of relevant experience in quantitative investing.
•An advanced degree in accounting, Ph.D. preferred.
•Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and practices.
•Deep knowledge of modern valuation techniques, including dividend discount models and free cash-flow models.
•Proficiency in Python for quantitative analysis and model development.
•The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Work independently or collaboratively as part of a team, with a strong work ethic and sense of ownership.
- Form actionable plans for solutions.
- Generate functional, efficient software and documentation.
- Work in source control and advance a shared code base.
- Effectively manage multiple projects with strong prioritization skills.

•This person should have the ability to develop creative investment ideas on their own and clearly articulate the ideas.
•Solid written and verbal communication skills are important and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide array of investment and technology professionals is critical.
