The Quality Control (QC) Analyst I is an entry-level role passionate about performing routine Environmental Monitoring (EM) and utility sampling, as well as conducting both routine and specialized testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished goods. This role ensures all activities are carried out in full compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The individual will be responsible for performing standard testing and project-related tasks, as well as supporting general lab activities as directed by management. This is an onsite position at the Walkersville, MD site, with a requirement to be present 5 days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct testing and enumeration on raw materials, packaging components, in-process products, finished goods, and stability samples in compliance with established procedures.

  • Perform testing to support Aseptic Process Simulations (APS), method validations, method transfers, and process and cleaning validations as the need arises.

  • Review, analyze, and interpret data while adhering to GDP and ALCOA+ principles, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

  • Prepare sample shipments and necessary documentation for contract laboratory testing; maintain communication with external laboratories as needed.

  • Assist in writing and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance and best practices.

  • Provide training support to other analysts as necessary.

  • Assist in initiating and managing OOS (Out of Specification) results, deviations, and investigations under supervisor guidance.

  • Perform general lab support activities including housekeeping, equipment maintenance, and managing inventory and ordering of supplies.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations and projects.

Key Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in a scientific discipline (such as Biology, Chemistry, or a related field), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, SAP, and other relevant software (spreadsheets, databases, and word processing).

  • Strong decision-making skills, exercising sound judgment based on established practices and precedence.

  • Ability to collaborate with supervisors to prioritize tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assignments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly and concisely.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, including test results and raw data.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique and adherence to laboratory best practices.

We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities; while also allowing for differentiation on performance based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at the company between the lower and the middle part of the applicable range. We tailor our offers within the range based on job-related factors, including organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic area and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and/or communication skills and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. This range is only inclusive of base salary, and base pay is just one component of Lonza’s total compensation package for employees.
