We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation QA Engineer to join a high-impact project team working on an important product for the U.S. defense community. You will be embedded in a cross-functional team of Full Stack Engineers, Product Developers and Designers, and will own test automation strategy and execution across backend and frontend components.

You’ll develop and maintain scalable automated test suites using Selenium, contributing directly to the stability and quality of a cloud-native, AI-driven project management product built on AWS GovCloud and deployed via Kubernetes (EKS). The product integrates with third-party systems like Jira and must meet stringent DoD security compliance (FedRAMP High, IL-5).

About the project:

Our client is a U.S.-based software company specializing in defense analytics. Its flagship platform leverages artificial intelligence and integrated data to modernize and accelerate the defense acquisition process. The company works closely with teams across supply chain, science and technology, production, sustainment, logistics, and modernization, providing data-driven capabilities that enable faster and more informed decision-making. It positions itself as a strategic partner to the U.S. government in national security and defense.

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript (SPA)
  • Backend: Java (Spring Boot, Quarkus), REST APIs
  • Infrastructure: AWS GovCloud, EKS (Kubernetes), Docker, Helm
  • Automation: Selenium, JUnit/TestNG, REST Assured
  • DevOps Tools: Snyk, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, PagerDuty
  • Data: PostgreSQL (Aurora), Redis (ElastiCache)

Location:
Hybrid - Boston, US.

Requires US citizenship and hybrid work from the Newton office 3 days per week, with occasional travel to Pittsburgh.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, with 3+ years in automation roles;
  • Proficiency with Playwright, Java, TestNG or JUnit;
  • Experience working in projects with Spring Boot (Java) backend and React (TypeScript) frontend;
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured);
  • Experience testing applications deployed in AWS (ideally GovCloud) environments;
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.);
  • Strong knowledge of test design techniques and test strategy development;
  • Proven ability to work onsite and collaborate with cross-functional, agile development teams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in defense, government, or highly regulated environments;
  • Exposure to security and compliance testing under FedRAMP or DoD frameworks;
  • Familiarity with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki;
  • Experience working with Quarkus-based services and FastAPI in backend stacks.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end automated test frameworks using Selenium WebDriver integrated with Java-based test infrastructure;
  • Collaborate closely with Full Stack engineers and product managers to define acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and automation coverage for a Spring Boot (Java) + React (TypeScript) application;
  • Automate regression and smoke testing for continuous delivery pipelines (CI/CD);
  • Perform API testing, integration testing, and UI validation across microservices;
  • Ensure full traceability of test cases to requirements and maintain high test coverage across the platform;
  • Set up and maintain test environments and test data pipelines in cloud-native infrastructure;
  • Investigate and report defects with clear documentation and reproduction steps;
  • Contribute to quality metrics reporting, performance benchmarking, and release readiness reviews;
  • Maintain secure and compliant testing standards in alignment with DoD IL-5 and FedRAMP High requirements.
