Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • R&D & Technology Development

  • Lead research and development of advanced mechanical design concepts for next-generation power transformers
  • Define and develop new design methodologies, tools, and internal standards (including Design Handbook – DH rules)
  • Explore innovative materials, structures, and manufacturing techniques to enhance transformer performance and durability
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and integrate them into product platforms
  • Advanced Simulation & Digital Engineering

  • Develop and implement advanced simulation methodologies using: Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Multiphysics simulations (structural, thermal, electromagnetic interactions), ANSYS or equivalent high-end simulation tools.
  • Establish best practices for simulation-driven design and digital validation
  • Correlate simulation models with experimental and field data to improve accuracy
  • Lead development of digital twins and predictive modelling capabilities
  • Failure Physics & Reliability Engineering

  • Lead deep-dive failure investigations to understand fundamental failure mechanisms
  • Develop physics-of-failure models for transformer components and systems
  • Translate failure insights into design rules, standards, and technology improvements
  • Define and enhance reliability engineering frameworks, including DFMEA methodologies
  • Build knowledge databases for failure modes and lessons learned
  • Design Standards & Knowledge Development

  • Own and continuously improve internal design standards, guidelines, and DH rules
  • Develop scalable engineering tools, calculation methods, and automation frameworks
  • Capture and institutionalize technical knowledge across the organization
  • Publish technical papers, patents, and internal whitepapers
  • Cross-Functional Innovation

  • Collaborate with electrical, materials, and manufacturing R&D teams to co-develop integrated solutions
  • Support early-stage concept development and feasibility studies
  • Provide technical guidance to product engineering teams for technology transfer
  • Technical Leadership

  • Act as a global subject matter expert in transformer mechanical design and R&D
  • Mentor engineers and build technical capability within the organization
  • Lead technical reviews, innovation workshops, and design forums
  • Influence strategic decisions on technology investments and development priorities.

Qualifications / Requirements / Desired characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field (PhD preferred)
  • 10–15+ years of experience in transformer mechanical design, with a strong focus on R&D or technology development.

Proven expertise in:

  • Advanced transformer mechanical design principles
  • ANSYS or equivalent simulation tools
  • FEA and Multiphysics modelling
  • Failure analysis and physics-of-failure approaches
  • DFMEA and reliability engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in developing design standards, DH rules, or engineering methodologies

  • Strong understanding of IEC, IEEE, and related industry standards.

Good to Have:

  • Experience with digital twin development and advanced modelling techniques
  • Background in materials science or advanced manufacturing processes
  • Experience publishing technical papers or holding patents
  • Knowledge of sustainability and eco-design principles in transformer technology.
