We are looking for a NPI (New Product Introduction) Buyer to join our team to support multiple product development programs by searching out new suppliers, technologies and components for our engineering team and ensuring that prototype components are ordered and arrive quickly and our programs stay on time. You’ll interface directly with our engineers to identify and set up potential suppliers, place orders and ensure a seamless process to support our development programs.

What will you own?

  • Execute purchases of development program material, including quick-term prototype requirements. Identify suppliers and expedite materials as necessary to support development program needs.
  • Develop supplier relationships with new and existing suppliers, and manage business transactions with those suppliers.
  • Identify potential suppliers for prototype components based on engineering specifications ranging from napkin sketch to fully-detailed drawing.
  • Support transmittal of design changes to suppliers for technical drawing revisions.  Track supplier implementation of these changes in delivered products and materials.
  • Own daily ordering queue from common suppliers
  • Set up and manage engineering inventory and Kanban systems to ensure adequate stock of consumables
  • Actively expedite suppliers to improve critical delivery needs to support challenging program requirements. Support resolution of quality issues, and continuously improve purchased material cost.
  • Create supplier RFP development, quoting and procurement to support NPI programs
  • Conduct competitive supplier bidding to ensure that ongoing purchases are contracted with supply partners offering the best value including delivery support, quality and cost.
  • Recommend and initiate process improvements including quality, efficiency, inventory and cost improvements.

Important Note:

Although we list out what we generally look for, we are very likely missing other attributes and skills that you have that could make you a great fit, but are not currently listed. Research has shown this especially applies to women and other marginalized groups, who tend to apply if they check 100% of every box, versus men who apply if they hit roughly 60%. The point we’re getting at, it doesn’t hurt to take a chance and apply!

What you have:
  • Prior Purchasing experience or working with suppliers
  • Degree or certificate in engineering, supply chain or similar technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Understanding of different material supply models (ROP, Kanban, etc).
  • Knowledge of Purchasing metrics and KPIs and how to achieve them
  • Experience establishing purchasing supply programs
  • Proactive and clear communicator
  • Ability to interpret requirements from an engineering drawing or specification
  • Positive, can-do attitude and strong problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus
