Toast’s Hardware team designs and develops world-class hardware devices in conjunction with our JDM & ODM partners. We are looking for an experienced Hardware Engineering Program Manager to join our team. This person will be responsible for leading all stages of the hardware product life cycle, from design and development to roll out and continued support of all Toast hardware products. The program manager will, as part of the Hardware Engineering team, utilize project management methodologies while working cross functionally to manage schedule, scope, resources, cost and managing risk of multiple integrated projects.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

Project Management - As a key member in the Hardware team who thinks strategically, you’ll apply your project management knowledge, skills, tools and techniques for leading a team to bring projects to completion

  • Lead new hardware product development programs through production launch
  • Creates and executes project work plans and revises to meet changing needs
  • Manage the project risk register and associated mitigation plan
  • Manage overseas ODM and CM to maintain schedule and execute on all deliverables

Leadership - Understand Toast’s strategic priorities and align with the cross functional team with a clear project plan. Keep the team focus and ensure commitment to be met

  • Serve as the primary conduit for projects/programs, between multiple business units
  • Hold teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work. Leverage organizational resources to improve capacity for project work
  • Demonstrate leadership by working with representatives from Product Management, Documentation, Support, Marketing, Operations, and Sales to prioritize and negotiate internal resource allocation to support the program plan/schedule

Communication

  • Coordinate and communicate project status regularly to project teams, stakeholders across the organization and the management team

Process Improvement

  • Help establish and iterate on Hardware and Operation team processes
  • Continuously improve team processes and tools in the spirit of Agile Project Management and lean operations
  • Ensure teams are adhering to Toast standards and best practices

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Minimum 3-5 years of project management experience
  • 3-5 years of technical experience working with electromechanical systems
  • Strong knowledge in program management skills in product development environment using both agile and waterfall methodologies
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Ability to drive to tangible results in a timely manner even when the work involves a high-level of ambiguity
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills
  • Working knowledge of Jira preferred
  • Mandarin speaker a strong plus
