About the Team

The Strategy Team is responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision and direction of the College Board. We work closely with executive leadership team, business units, and external partners to identify opportunities and incubate solutions that improve educational opportunities and outcomes, particularly for low-income, first-generation, and students of color, in the context of a competitive business environment. 

The GenAI Studio is an internal incubator at College Board that launched in January 2024. Through the Studio, College Board is investing time and resources for GenAI ideation. Our team is responsibly experimenting with AI to generate user value across our portfolio of offerings as well as advising on AI literacy efforts for educators and students. We are led by a diverse, cross-functional team of strategists, technologists, and managers at College Board committed to solving the most impactful and interesting problems arising with AI. 

About the Opportunity  

As a Product Owner, Generative AI, you will bring a data-driven, user-centric, and strategic approach to building AI products that solve problems for students and educators. You recognize and empathize with the structural inequities in America, particularly within the education system. Your primary focus will be on discovery, definition and delivery of new product prototypes, applying innovative ideas and technologies to creatively solve challenging, real-world problems. You are an early-adopter, enthusiastic about finding high-value applications for emerging tools and new technology. Versatile and adaptable, you are comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity. You are resourceful and able to forge ahead even when faced with incomplete information.

In this role, you will report to the head of College Board’s GenAI Studio and collaborate closely with our Generative AI Product Strategy lead. You will have opportunities to work across programs (AP, SAT, BigFuture) and with executive leadership (e.g. President, CTO). You have the potential to improve learning and instruction using AI for millions of students and thousands of educators. In this role, you will:

Strategy and Planning (40%)

  • Work with the GenAI Studio leadership and product incubation team (Data Scientist, UX Design Researcher, Engineer, Business Analyst) to identify and define the highest priority features on the product roadmap that align with product vision and organizational priorities

  • Develop sprint and deployment plans aligned to our product’s go-to-market strategy, defining feature set releases that deliver value to our customers

  • Collaborate with Product Lead to gather and monitor data on product usage and user behaviors to inform prioritization of features

  • Work with the team to identify and execute upon opportunities for continuous improvement of team dynamics, enjoyment, and performance in an environment of collaboration and innovation

Delivery and Execution (35%)

  • Support the delivery of the highest priority products on the roadmap that are aligned to product strategy

  • Drive product features through their entire creative cycle: ideation, specification, development, release, analysis, and iteration

  • Evaluate trade-offs between competing choices and make informed recommendations based on deep orientation towards customer needs and data

  • Work cross-functionally across product incubation team and with program experts to build prototypes and capabilities

  • Support the design and execution approaches to get rapid feedback from educators, students, and/or content SME to rapidly iterate

Learning, Ideating, and Sharing (25%)

  • Collaborate with Design Research to lead ongoing user interviews, usability tests, A/B tests, etc. and share key findings with the team(s)

  • Understand evolving needs of educators and students as Generative AI begins to shift the U.S. education landscape

  • Understand College Board program (AP, SAT Suite, BigFuture) needs and strategies in service of connecting GenAI product strategy

  • Study key GenAI initiatives of other educational organizations

  • Share knowledge of new developments with the team via chats, recurring meetings, and presentations when appropriate

About You 

You have:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including significant roles as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or in related positions at startups or in new problem/opportunity areas within established companies  

  • Experience developing digital products for students, high schools or colleges, with an understanding of the unique challenges associated with education technology

  • A deep curiosity (some might call you obsessive) for learning about new areas, such as the education sector or GenAI

  • Excellent analytical skills with strength in using quantitative and qualitative evidence to define and solve problems

  • Experience defining user needs, documenting product requirements in concise, valuable deliverables, and crafting and grooming highly effective user stories and epics

  • Proven track record of owning product features from inception through design to implementation and launch

  • Strong ability to work on teams and collaborate across lines of difference

  • Experience working within a lean-agile software product development culture, developing hypotheses, assumptions and A/B tests

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Willingness to travel 3-5 times a year

  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

About Our Process

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 - $135,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.  

Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles. College Board strives to provide our best offer up front based on these criteria.
