Who We Are Seeking

Left Field Labs is partnering with illumend to find a Product Marketing Manager to build and own the entire product marketing function for illumend. This is a critical, high-impact role for a strategic individual contributor who is ready to lead. As the sole Product Marketer, you'll have the autonomy to shape our go-to-market strategy, product positioning, and messaging from the ground up.

You'll be the voice of our product and our customers, owning the full customer journey—from top-of-funnel acquisition to retention for both sales-led and product-led growth (PLG) paths. This role requires a blend of creative vision, data-driven decision-making, and a deep obsession with our users. You'll work cross-functionally to ensure our product positioning, messaging, and voice are consistent and compelling, helping us define and lead a new industry.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Own the Function: Be the driving force behind all product marketing initiatives, including go-to-market strategy, product launches, and ongoing product messaging.
  • Create and Define: Craft compelling product positioning and messaging that resonates with our target audience, ensuring our brand voice and tone are consistent across all channels.
  • Drive PLG Success: Lead product marketing efforts specifically for our product-led growth motion, from initial user acquisition and onboarding to feature adoption and retention.
  • Become Customer Obsessed: Actively seek out and engage with customers to understand their needs, challenges, and motivations. Use these insights to inform strategy, messaging, and product development.
  • Content Strategy & Creation: Develop and execute a content strategy for our website and other channels, writing impactful copy that drives engagement and conversion.
  • Experiment and Iterate: Embrace a data-driven approach, designing and running experiments to test messaging, pricing, and packaging. Quickly analyze results to iterate and optimize what’s working and move on from what’s not.
  • Lead Cross-functionally: Serve as a key influencer and partner to all teams, including Product, Sales, and Engineering. Manage competing priorities and make strategic decisions that drive the business forward
Required Skills

What You Will Need to be Successful

  • 5+ years of experience in business to business product marketing, with a proven track record of owning and scaling a product marketing function, preferably at an early-stage or growth-stage company
  • Direct, hands-on experience in a PLG model is a must-have. The ideal candidate will understand the entire customer journey, from free trial to conversion, and know how to leverage product usage data to drive growth
  • The candidate must demonstrate a "builder" mindset, with the ability to create, implement, and optimize strategies and processes from scratch in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • A genuine and natural curiosity to understand customers is critical. This includes a history of conducting customer interviews, gathering qualitative feedback, and using those insights to inform positioning, messaging, and product strategy
  • A strong analytical mindset is essential. The candidate should be proficient in using data to test hypotheses, analyze what's working (and what's not), and iterate quickly
  • Experience with A/B testing, marketing analytics, and interpreting product usage data is required
  • The role requires a unique blend of strategic foresight and creative execution. The candidate must be able to think about product positioning in a new industry and be creative in their approach to messaging and content
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across different teams (Product, Sales, Engineering, etc.), manage competing priorities, and influence decisions without direct authority. Strong communication and collaboration skills are non-negotiable
  • Experience in developing and executing go-to-market (GTM) strategies for new products and features, including crafting clear messaging, positioning, and sales enablement materials
  • Experience in developing, testing, and iterating on pricing and packaging strategies
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $180,000 and applies only to jobs performed in Culver City, California. This range represents the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Please note that we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
