We are looking for a Product Manager who will fill a critical role on our product management team where you will drive product design and deployment of product services for our clients. You will do so in an exciting environment driven by a desire to enable more efficient and effective care.   
 
The Team: 

At athenahealth, we build technology that helps medical groups get paid accurately and on time. As part of this team, you will help redesign and build the core medical billing workflows and tools that help practices capture charges, validate billing details, and move work forward with confidence—so providers and staff spend less time on administrative tasks and more time on patient care. 

 

We are a passionate team of product, engineering, UX, and analytics professionals driven to maximize revenue cycle efficiency and effectiveness for our athenaCollector clients.   

The Opportunity: 

We’re seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Product Manager to help guide product development and delivery for medical billing workflows in athenaCollector—turning complex data into clear, actionable experiences and scaling our platform through thoughtful modernization. 

You will work closely with the product leadership team: understand client end user and leadership goals; prioritize the product roadmap for your team; collaborate with engineering to ensure delivery of high- quality, high-impact features; and drive rollout and adoption in partnership with product operations and client-facing teams.

You push and strive toward the best long-term solution while executing against that plan day-to-day.  You can make tough trade off decisions between scope and schedule, while maintaining true focus on outcomes.    
 
The Product Manager is responsible for one product area within their overarching Product’s portfolio; understanding the market and customer, contributing to a product vision, developing business cases, ensuring a product or set of product features meets business requirements and driving the creation and delivery of the product. This position will work within scrum teams defining and writing user stories, prioritizing product backlogs, and making trade off decisions between scope and schedule.      

This is a hybrid role based in our Boston, MA office with an in-office expectation of one day/week. 
 

 
Job Responsibilities  

  • Drive ongoing backlog allocations and prioritization of customer jobs to solve within area of responsibility 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with counterparts and stakeholders in engineering, UX, analytics, product operations, and other teams throughout the organization 

  • Define epics and user stories, clearly articulating business requirements for the problems we’re trying to solve - including UX/CX/Support requirements 

  •  Understand the market opportunity via user needs, market forces, and applicable business models; with regards to what would best serve our clients today as well as in the future 

  • Identify and track metrics and success criteria to create transparency and visibility to program success and opportunities for improvement 

  • Partner with Product Management leaders to be the voice of product decisions within the organization; assist leaders in identifying business opportunities that will drive product success 

  • Represent the customer for assigned product area, demonstrating responsibility for end-to-end customer journey and touchpoints 

 
Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required 

  • Understanding of healthcare revenue cycle / health IT environment is preferred 

  • 5+ years overall professional experience; 2-4 years of formal product management experience or related experience driving results cross-functionally 

  • Experience bringing products to market 

  • Understanding of product management best practices, including agile development 

  • Demonstrated success at driving innovation in a dynamic environment using analytic and quantitative capabilities  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain your positioning to key stakeholders around the company in an effective way 


Expected Compensation

$121,000 - $207,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
