About Voltus
Voltus is a leading DER technology platform and virtual power plant operator connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets in order to deliver less expensive, more reliable, and more sustainable electricity. We help commercial and industrial customers and DER partners generate cash by maximizing the value of their flexible load, distributed generation, energy storage, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle resources in energy markets. We hire teammates who are bright, gritty, and good; who have a genuine passion for delivering a cleaner energy future; and who enjoy working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

The Role
As the Product Managerfor Onboarding & Enrollment you will be responsible for owning and driving outcomes associated with the critical first-mile of turning DERs into dollars: from initial signup to market-eligibility. You’ll help Voltus “simplify the complex” of distribution utilities, energy markets, and customer circumstances in order to help maximize the volume of MWUM (megawatts under management) that are eligible to enroll and re-enroll every season.

What’s the role? This role is a mix of strategy and execution, which includes researching user and market needs, defining vision and strategy, forming and evaluating investment theses, establishing roadmaps, prioritizing outcomes, running experiments, managing cross-functional execution, and measuring the impact of your initiatives. You will work extremely closely with the GTM, design & engineering, customer success & operations, and energy markets teams who will be key stakeholders, collaborators, and users.

Some things you might do in your first 90 days: Reducing time-to-authorization from weeks to days. Prioritizing self-serve capabilities to increase the throughput of enrollment requirements. Designing flexible onboarding and enrollment flows that adapt to different customer and market circumstances (e.g. large single facilities vs. multi-site enterprises).

Who are you? You are a self-starter with a strong bias toward action. You are an enthusiastic right-brain communicator, with strong left-brain technical capabilities. You gravitate toward hard and hairy problems, especially novel ones. You love simplifying complex concepts and can quickly deep dive into the heart of an issue. You are a team player and are eager to learn and collaborate with your Bright, Gritty, and Good colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and prioritize outcomes within your product area that will drive the most impact on the company’s key business objectives
  • Be the champion of business value, user needs, and market opportunities, and use them to formulate investment theses
  • Own the product roadmap, vision, and success criteria for your product area
  • Lead and support initiatives within Voltus that drive toward your prioritized outcomes
  • Perform research and conduct analysis continuously to validate hypotheses and assumptions
  • Collaborate with your manager (GPM) and engineering manager to align on priorities and manage the day-to-day efforts of ongoing initiatives and workstreams
  • Ensure the product is valuable, adequately supported, integrated with the company’s operations, has high adoption and retention, and is aligned with business strategy
  • Communicate initiatives and product outcome results with stakeholders across the organization

Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a product manager or a role building and launching products
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of technical concepts and software development methodologies
  • Ability to distill qualitative and quantitative data into actionable insights
  • Bonus: experience working in an agile environment
  • Bonus: experience working in the energy technology industry

  • Voltus is a fully distributed company and this job is remote. You have the flexibility to work from anywhere, but your workday must align with a US-based time zone.

At Voltus, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer because we recognize that a diverse organization begins with a diverse candidate pool. This means we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of your gender identity, race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability status, or marital status.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
