Job Description:

The Product Manager Principal II will lead the product through all stages of the product’s life cycle including definition, development, release and post release activities.

This position is responsible for developing and executing global product and market strategy initiatives by capturing market insight and translating it into actionable, differentiated products which benefit customers and drive revenue. This includes working in a cross-functional capacity to develop and successfully execute strategic and tactical product plans, as well as leading the definition of features and functionalities to be implemented by development teams. The product manager works with development teams, product content and UX designers to ideate and build the right solutions for the customers. They are the ones on the ground floor, talking to users, synthesizing the data, and making the decisions from a feature perspective. Product managers are responsible for a feature or a set of features that are part of a larger packaged product. The product manager needs to support the Suite Leaders craft the vision of the features and how they fit into the overall product and take the tactical ownership of a smooth execution of the solution. The role requires operational and strategic responsibilities around the shorter-term impact and delivery of features on the roadmap

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Product Manager Principal assumes lead in:
    • Determining and maintaining software product and service requirements through an in-depth understanding of customer and partner needs
    • Working directly with customers and partners to understand their needs and translate them into requirements
    • Evaluating and prioritizing requested product enhancements
    • Evaluating and presenting business opportunities to Vertex management and executives.
    • Developing and implementing product related marketing plans; overseeing the overall product strategy including the development, pricing and marketing of products and services.
    • Developing and maintaining product related marketing materials including product collateral, release materials, sales tools and materials, and internet data.
    • Conducting research and analysis of competitive information as needed.
    • Provide guidance to and mentor more junior team members.
    • Occasional travel required.
    • Lead or participate in other projects or duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert understanding of third party “bolt on” sales tax and Value Added Tax (VAT) software solutions  
  • Thorough understanding of tax compliance and reporting
  • Thorough understanding customer needs and translating them into solution requirements
  • Producing solution roadmaps in support of company objectives
  • Defining marketing strategy including positioning, benefits, key messaging
  • Creating product forecasts
  • Developing and implementing solution related marketing plans
  • Training customer facing departments on product enhancements and initiatives
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Wide latitude for independent decision making.
  • Ability to network with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.
  • Must possess good interpersonal organizational, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Must be results oriented, customer focused, and exhibit good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Ten (10) plus years of ERP/Ecommerce software experience, preferably with SAP or Oracle .
  • Ten (10) plus years of product management experience
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of VAT  
  • Experience working in SAFe methodology preferred
  • MBA, CPA, or equivalent experience a plus
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
