Position Summary: 
Help shape product strategy and delivery for claims submission workflows that support high-volume, business-critical operations. In this hybrid role based in Boston, MA, you will define product direction, prioritize work, and partner with cross-functional teams to improve the current state of the product and deliver measurable business value. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, UX, Analytics, and customer-facing teams. This role reports to the Product Management Executive Director. 

About the Team: 
The Billing Workflows team supports key client-facing workflows and the core technical components that guide the claim lifecycle, from charge capture through claim validation, submission, and management. Through this end-to-end claims lifecycle ownership, the team drives initiatives to improve customer workflows, increase operational efficiency, and modernize the underlying technology platform, partnering closely with Engineering, UX, Analytics, and customer-facing teams to improve revenue cycle outcomes for athenaCollector customers and operational teams. 

Essential Job Responsibilities: 

  • Define product requirements, user stories, epics, and roadmaps that address business problems and support product goals. 

  • Partner with Engineering, UX, Analytics, and customer-facing teams to gather input, align priorities, and support delivery. 

  • Analyze customer needs, operational issues, and market context to shape product decisions. 

  • Serve as product owner for assigned scrum teams and guide work through planning and execution. 

  • Prioritize work based on business value, customer impact, technical feasibility, and delivery timing. 

  • Evaluate tradeoffs and communicate recommendations to help guide product direction. 

  • Support feature launches through alpha, beta, and general availability by coordinating readiness, impact analysis, and communications. 

  • Communicate product intent and planned outcomes clearly to internal stakeholders and customer-facing teams. 

  • Use AI tools to help organize feedback, summarize notes, and speed up analysis while applying sound product judgment to decide what should move forward.

 

Additional Job Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to product vision and longer-term planning for assigned workflow areas. 

  • Support business case development for new features and product enhancements. 

  • Monitor product performance and identify opportunities for improvement. 

  • Help remove blockers that affect delivery timelines or team alignment. 

  • Support ongoing process improvement within product development workflows. 

Expected Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. 

  • 2-5 years of professional experience, including 0-3 years in product management, is required. 

  • Experience working with stakeholders across cross-functional teams is required. 

  • Experience in healthcare or revenue cycle management workflows is preferred. 

  • Technical understanding of SaaS products is preferred, including the ability to assess feasibility and timelines. 

  • Knowledge of product management practices, including agile development, is preferred. 

  • Experience using analytics and data to support decisions is required. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment and support innovation through analytical and quantitative thinking is required. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to explain ideas clearly to different audiences. 


Expected Compensation

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
