Our mission is to make insurance and benefits more accessible and delightful to this generation of employees.

The companies our investors have previously backed or built include Spotify, Airbnb, Klarna, Truelayer, Snapchat, Workday, Personio, Workvivo, Pointy, Workable, Wayflyer, and more.able, Wayflyer and more.

Role Overview

We’re hiring a Product Engineer, AI & Internal Tooling to build the tools, automations, and agentic AI applications that supercharge productivity across Kota. This is the first hire on a brand-new team focused entirely on internal enablement - giving you a unique opportunity to shape the function from scratch.

You’ll work across the stack and across the company - building retool dashboards, building our tooling applications, internal APIs, low-code workflows (Zapier, n8n), and most importantly, AI-powered internal agents using frameworks like Langchain, Pydantic.

We’re looking for a jack-of-all-trades builder with a product mindset & someone who doesn’t wait for specs, but proactively spots bottlenecks, prototypes solutions, and ships fast.

This is not a typical software engineering role. It’s a high-leverage, high-autonomy position for someone who thinks like a founder and ships like a hacker.

Why join us?

Build from Scratch – You’ll be the first engineer on the Internal Tooling team. You’ll help set direction, standards, and the stack.

Agentic AI Work – Apply frameworks like Langchain & Pydantic to build smart, autonomous tools that help Kota scale.

Fullstack Playground – Use the right tool for the job: React, Retool, AWS, n8n, Zapier, Python, TypeScript - you name it.

End-to-End Ownership – You’ll help scope, ship, and support tools that make the whole company faster.

No Red Tape – Move fast in a culture that trusts its builders and prioritizes shipping value.

Immediate Impact – You’ll unblock teams, save hours, and make Kota run smoother right from day one.

Modern Infra – Our current stack includes React Router, NextJs, .NET 8, AWS, Vercel, PostgreSQL, and more. You are not limited by this.

What You’ll Do
  • Build internal tools and automations across departments using a mix of code and no-code.

  • Design and deploy internal agentic apps powered by LLMs using Langchain or similar frameworks.

  • Create Retool dashboards, internal APIs, and one-off scripts that solve real business problems.

  • Collaborate with engineering, ben-ops, product, GTM, support and leadership to understand pain points and ship solutions.

  • Triage and clear the internal tooling backlog for our platform team in your first 60 days.

  • Set up best practices and patterns for how internal tooling is built at Kota.

  • Own your work from prototype to production, including performance, monitoring, and scaling.

What We’re Looking for
  • 6+ years of experience as a fullstack or generalist engineer using React & Typescript or Python.

  • Hands-on experience building agentic apps with tools like Langchain, LLMs, RAG pipelines, or embedding models.

  • Comfortable with Retool, Zapier, n8n, AWS Lambda, and similar tools.

  • Strong product sense - you think in outcomes, not code; you love to ship fast.

  • A “figure it out” mindset - self-directed, and excited to automate the boring stuff.

  • Excellent communication and remote collaboration skills.

Bonus Points For:
  • Prior startup or solo-founder experience

  • Experience setting up observability and monitoring for internal systems

  • Side projects where you have put AI to meaningful use

  • Familiarity with developer experience tooling or internal enablement work

And of course.... Your employee benefits!
  • Health Insurance contribution via Kota

  • Access to a Workplace Pension with matched contributions up to 5% via Kota

  • WFH stipend to support your home office needs

  • Group Life Assurance via Kota

  • Generous PTO - work hard and take the time you need

  • Annual, company-wide offsite

We are an equal-opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
