Our Opportunity:
Chewy is dedicated to being the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents (and partners), everywhere. On the Product Design and Research team, we embrace this vision (and our pets!). We create experiences that delight customers (and the businesses and veterinarians that support them) and empower them to keep their pets happy and healthy. As a team of collaborative, fun-loving designers, researchers, and builders, we're looking for creative and driven talent to join the pack.
We are looking for a Product Designer - Pet Health Content in Boston, MA or Bellevue, WA to join the Chewy Pet Health design team. We reach millions of pet parents every month and provide engaging, empowering content, and peace of mind through expert-written editorials and pet health tools. The ideal candidate will be adept at translating customer and business needs into innovative, well-crafted designs driving experiences that will meet the needs of our readers and enrich the Chewy ecosystem. You will play a meaningful role in defining the structure, layout and interaction for our content engagement experiences across multiple services and domains across Chewy and PetMD. You will be working with product, engineering, marketing, and creative partners as part of a strong Product Design organization.
What You'll Do:
  • Product Vision & Problem Solving:
    • Transform customer goals into compelling products that have purpose, simplicity, and are practical to build
    • Develop multiple solutions for a specific challenge, drawing from standard design principles and Chewy's own design language, that can be delivered across a range of products, platforms, and devices with a bias for action and crisp prioritization
  • End-to-End Design Process:
    • Manage the design process for your projects from end to end: Discovery and concept brainstorming, flows and wireframes, and full-fidelity prototype designs
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with partners, product managers, developers, content strategists, user researchers, and other designers on cross-team initiatives
  • Design Consistency & Quality:
    • Champion cohesion and consistency to unite a growing family of products
  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Present your design process, inspiration, and decisions to partners, including C-suite executives
  • Culture & Leadership:
    • Nurture Chewy's culture and principles within your team and the design practice.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Design Experience & Expertise
    • 3+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role
    • Experience delivering high-quality digital products that deliver results and demonstrate the depth of your design and reasoning skills; illustrated in a portfolio or case studies
    • Experience with rapid prototyping as part of your design process
  • Leadership & Program Management
    • 1+ years of experience leading large-scale product design programs
    • Experience with prioritizing customer goals and articulating tradeoffs
  • Communication & Problem Solving:
    • Experience communicating and presenting complex problems
  • Education & Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the design field
  • Work Logistics:
    • Position may require travel and requires time in the local office

Bonus:
  • Visual & Systems Design
    • Strong visual design skills (hierarchy, type, color)
    • Experience with applying and evolving design system patterns
  • Research & Insights
    • Experience running small research studies independently

Hub Locations & Work Arrangement:
  • Hybrid Model: 3 days in hub location per week
  • Remote: This role is NOT a remote role.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
