Formlabs is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Engineer to lead the development and optimization of manufacturing services, including scaled additive manufacturing operations, equipment refurbishment, and pre-production builds & validation campaigns. This role is critical in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, quality, and success of 3D printing operations and new business initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of manufacturing tools & processes, quality systems, and engineering validation principles, along with excellent problem-solving and project management skills. The ability to create scrappy-yet-scalable solutions is critical to success in this role.

The Job:

  • Design, plan, and implement the layout and infrastructure for a scalable and efficient operation, considering factors such as workflow, material handling, environmental controls, and safety
  • Select, procure, and integrate new 3D printing equipment and supporting technologies
  • Establish and maintain standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices
  • Implement monitoring systems and metrics to track performance, evaluate capacity & utilization, and identify bottlenecks 
  • Develop equipment & processes to expand operational capabilities and capacity.
  • Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to meet stakeholder requirements
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to processes, equipment, and validation activities

You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline  
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes & principles, such as 5S, lean, material flow, safety, quality management, etc.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related role
  • Knowledge of engineering validation principles and methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment  
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., CAD software, data analysis tools, project 

Bonus:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with 3D printing technologies (e.g., FDM, SLA, SLS).
  • Experience with NPI hardware and/or process development 
  • Experience in establishing and managing refurbishment programs is a plus
