Job Description:

As a member of the User Experience Research Team, you will contribute to Fidelity’s future growth by understanding people and their needs. Your research will inform and inspire our business and design leaders to improve current offerings and develop new products that help people achieve their financial goals. You will plan and conduct various types of qualitative and quantitative customer research, identify problems from the user’s point of view, develop insights and opportunity areas, and test new ideas for product-market fit. This role requires an experienced individual with proven ability to impact user outcomes and business strategy who will immerse themselves in a product area and independently drive projects to completion.

Responsibilities

As a Principal UX Researcher, you will:

  • Own an area of focus in which you identify and prioritize the research that will most effectively drive user and business outcomes

  • Engage daily with Product, Design, and Content stakeholders to understand priorities and key initiatives

  • Scope qualitative and quantitative research studies with stakeholders to define objectives, research questions, constraints, and most efficient/effective approach

  • Execute project work independently

  • Share insights & recommendations with stakeholders, ensuring that recommendations influence product strategy and design decisions and improve business and user outcomes

  • Contribute to the UX Research community by participating in initiatives that improve our practices and processes

Your Expertise & Skills

  • 7+ years of proven experience conducting/leading Design Research/ User Experience Research efforts. Bachelors and/or Masters in Design, Human Factors, Psychology, and/or related field highly preferred

  • Proven ability to design and execute qualitative and quantitative research methods, including 1:1 interviewing, concept testing, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, and survey design

  • Experience with the Jobs to Be Done framework

  • Ability to recommend appropriate research method & approach, based on objectives and constraints

  • Ability to rapidly scope, execute, and deliver results with minimal oversight

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to rapidly analyze research data and share insights and recommendations succinctly, with a strong point of view and actionable takeaways

  • Curiosity and confidence to ask questions that will uncover stakeholders’ true research needs

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and build trust with users and stakeholders in product, design, and content

  • Ability to pivot in a complex environment

  • Ability to tie research insights and recommendations to business needs and problems

  • Growth mindset – a strong desire to learn and improve, willingness and ability to give and receive feedback that improves deliverables and outcomes

  • Familiarity with analytics and in-market experimentation preferred

  • Business expertise: ability to understand business drivers and provide research consultation

  • Ability to challenge traditional assumptions about UX Design and Research – seeking out, inventing, testing and sharing new directions and technologies

  • Ability to teach others about User Experience Research

As a Principal UX Researcher, you’ll be part of a 70-person Research & Product Design Strategy community that identifies users’ unmet needs and guides Fidelity to build useful and usable digital products. Fidelity’s UXR leadership team is committed to coaching and advancing associates’ careers. UX Research is supported by a Research Ops team that manages recruitment, procurement, and project tracking.
