At Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics, we're building the infrastructure that will power the next generation of retail experiences. We're the team behind Alphabot®, a new technology that's changing the way America shops. Our automated pickup and delivery systems use a combination of robotics and software to efficiently handle large volumes of online orders, streamlining operations for managers and enhancing the customer experience. We're passionate about robotics, retail, and creating solutions that impact millions of customers daily.

We're seeking an experienced, talented, and highly motivated leader to join the Software Program Management team in a highly visible role as a Principal Technical Program Manager. In this position, the right candidate will play multiple roles, including:

  • Technical Program Manager for critical New Product Development, Continuous Improvement, and Sustaining Engineering programs in the ASR software portfolio
  • Technical Program Manager for multiple software scrum teams, managing both long-term and day-to-day delivery planning, execution, and improvement
  • Mentor a team of Program Managers to evolve various Software Program Management disciplines, for example: Project Planning and Delivery Frameworks, Change Management, Release Management, etc.

The right candidate has a strong leadership background with a track record of leading complex software projects across multiple teams and has deep technical knowledge in software. You should thrive and succeed in a fast-paced environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity, change, or competing priorities. You are energized by rolling up your sleeves, digging in, and working with technical teams to deliver business value predictably and frequently. You exhibit infectious leadership that inspires and creates excitement and confidence when leading teams through challenges.

As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, make tradeoffs, and balance business and technical needs versus constraints, and execute your programs following the ASR Software Development Process. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical and technical talent, and team leadership are essential to success in this role.  You are well-versed in Agile development methodologies and bring tools to overcome common challenges of applying Agile principles.

What you'll do:

  • Plan, execute, and track the progress of cross-team and cross-functional development programs for large, complex software systems following the ASR Software Development Process.
  • Coordinate and synchronize multiple scrum teams to design, build, test, and release software.
  • Represent Technical Program Management to cross-functional leadership teams that align software release feature sets with team and product roadmaps.
  • Monitor, assess, improve, and communicate program performance to team members, peers, and leadership with a keen focus on scope, quality, schedule, risk, and change management.
  • Act as a Program Manager for two or more scrum teams - lead Agile ceremonies, build, and execute roadmap delivery plans, perform risk and change management, report and communicate status, remove team bottlenecks and impediments, and drive team maturity.
  • Mentor and coach other Program Managers to advance Technical Program Management standards, best practices, and core competencies.

What we're looking for:

  • Someone passionate about making an impact every day by driving process improvement and leading software teams in the planning and delivery of business value.
  • 10+ years of experience in an Agile Scrum and/or Kanban software environment.
  • 10+ years as a Technical Program Manager or equivalent in a matrix organization supporting complex software systems, preferably with both hardware and software components.
  • Exceptional ability to build strong relationships across organizational boundaries to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Expert ability to impactfully communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy, tact, and transparency.
  • Ability to drive strong attention to detail and process excellence into software engineering teams.
  • Effective negotiation and risk management skills, and possession of a comprehensive suite of tools applicable to common project challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience in maturing software teams to improve predictability and enable key business outcomes.
  • Expertise in Jira, Confluence and Microsoft Project highly desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP), or equivalent formal training preferred.
  • B.S. degree in an engineering or technical discipline.
We offer great benefits for a happier mind, body, and wallet:
  • Competitive pay and performance-based bonus awards
  • Competitive 401(k) matching program, stock purchase plans, and equity opportunities
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and insurance plans with options for dependent coverage
  • Unlimited PTO for salaried employees, covering vacation, holidays, and personal days
  • Up to 12 weeks of fully paid maternity/paternity leave
  • Special Walmart discounts for in-store and online purchases
  • Complimentary daily lunches, beverages, and snacks
  • Other benefits include short-term and long-term disability, Military Leave Pay, adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, and more
