Job Responsibilities:

The Principal Software Engineer will work as part of the perception software team and with related software and hardware teams to develop new functionalities and extend existing functionalities of material handling robotic systems. Responsibilities will include:

  1. Conduct full-cycle development of perception functions, autonomously or under the supervision of a team leader.
  2. Write unit tests and test functions on real hardware as required.
  3. Read and understand existing code and provide code reviews for peers.
  4. Make reasonable estimates of task execution times and adhere to them.
  5. Search for, read, and implement algorithms from engineering books and research papers.
  6. Collect, process, and annotate datasets.
  7. Train, fine-tune, and validate machine learning models.
  8. Continuously self-educate on the latest developments in perception and robotics.

Telecommuting is not available.


Travel Requirement: 10% Domestic travel required per year.

Education, Experience and Skills Requirements:


The employer requires at least a master's degree in computer science, robotics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field, and at least 2 years of work experience in software development with a focus on computer vision and robotics. In addition, the employer requires:


(1) Demonstrated ability to design and develop complex robotic software systems using Python and C++, including the integration of perception, planning, and control components, gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.

(2) Demonstrated ability to architect and optimize machine learning pipelines, including model training, evaluation, and deployment in production environments to meet operational KPIs gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.

(3) Demonstrated proficiency with perception and 3D processing libraries including OpenCV, PCL, and Open3D and applying them to large-scale or real-time robotic systems gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.

(4) Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations and evaluate algorithmic tradeoffs for perception tasks such as grasp point generation, object detection, point cloud processing, anomaly detection, or automatic sensor calibration gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.

(5) Demonstrated experience working with diverse machine vision sensors including RGB cameras, grayscale 2D cameras, and 3D sensors and applying sensor data in multi-sensor fusion or calibration pipelines gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.

(6) Demonstrated ability to guide technical prioritization, coordinate cross-functional deliverables, and drive consensus on design decisions to support large-scale robotic deployments gained through at least one (1) year of work experience.


All years of experience may be gained concurrently. Experience gained in connection with post-bachelor’s degree program or with internships acceptable.
