Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Principal, Program Manager at ActBlue is a senior leader responsible for designing, leading, and executing key organization-wide initiatives that drive ActBlue's strategic priorities and operational excellence. Sitting on the Office of the Executive team and reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Principal works closely with senior leaders across the organization to align programs with long-term goals, coordinate cross-functional execution, and provide visibility into progress and impact.

This individual will serve as a key strategic thought partner and advisor to executive leadership, contributing to ActBlue's multi-year operational strategy and translating that strategy into actionable program roadmaps. The Principal will lead complex, high-priority programs with broad organizational scope — navigating ambiguity, establishing new policies and guidelines where needed, and making decisions with full consideration of long-term, organization-wide impact.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Program Management

  • Lead strategic, executive-sponsored program development by defining goals, success metrics, scope, and benchmarks for initiatives that support ActBlue's organizational and operational goals; hold accountability for the efficacy of strategy across multiple workstreams and functions.
  • Contribute to the development of ActBlue's multi-year operational roadmap, translating executive and organizational strategy into actionable program plans and guiding execution across the organization.
  • Drive execution and cross-functional collaboration, enabling clear communication, decision-making, and accountability across departments and with senior members of the organization.
  • Reconcile multiple and diverse stakeholder perspectives to drive business results, consistently considering ActBlue's practices, historical context, and stakeholder needs in decision-making.
  • Develop innovative tools, templates, and planning resources that establish standards and improve program management practices across the organization.
  • Build and manage detailed program plans, including timelines, budgets, milestones, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Identify and mitigate program risks, proactively resolving issues and navigating tradeoff decisions with senior stakeholders.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leaders, providing insight and analysis on program performance, organizational trends, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Foster stakeholder alignment, bringing together diverse perspectives and leading through influence in high-stakes, high-visibility contexts.
  • Continuously evaluate programs using data and stakeholder feedback, adapting strategies and approaches to improve impact and efficiency.

Event Strategy & Execution

  • Own end-to-end planning and execution of high-visibility internal events — including all-staff gatherings, and organizational offsites — ensuring they are strategically purposeful, operationally seamless, and reflective of ActBlue's culture and values.
  • Lead external event programming for partner and customer audiences, designing experiences that advance ActBlue's relationships, brand, and mission — from concept through post-event evaluation.
  • Establish event management standards, playbooks, and vendor relationships that enable consistent, high-quality execution at scale across event types and audiences.
  • Define success metrics for each event and produce post-event analyses that capture ROI, stakeholder feedback, and lessons learned to inform future programming.
  • Partner with Communications, Marketing, People & Culture, and senior leadership to ensure event content, logistics, and attendee experience align with organizational messaging and goals.
  • Manage event budgets with rigor, negotiating contracts and vendor relationships to maximize impact within resource constraints.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum of 8-10+ years of deep, specialized experience in cross-functional program or project management
  • Proven track record of supporting and advising executive leadership in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to introduce tooling into the program management process (AI, AirTable preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools and experience managing complex projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to define KPIs, benchmarks, and success metrics for complex, high-visibility initiatives and to hold accountability for outcomes with long-term organizational impact
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
  • High emotional intelligence and discretion, particularly in handling sensitive or confidential information
  • Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing high-visibility internal and external events, including executive convenings, organizational offsites, and partner/customer programs
  • Ability to manage complex event logistics — including vendor management, budget oversight, and stakeholder coordination — while maintaining strategic focus on outcomes
  • Experience developing event playbooks and scalable frameworks that elevate execution quality across an organization
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
