Principal Product Manager, Smart Workflows

About the role:

We are seeking an exceptional Principal Product Manager, Smart Workflows to lead the transformation of how 8am leverages automation and artificial intelligence to transform how legal and accounting professionals work and deliver value to their clients across lead & intake management, case / project management, client communications & time tracking. This is both a strategic transformation and hands-on execution role—ideal for someone who combines a deep understanding of professional workflow pain points with intelligent automation capabilities and thrives at solving complex productivity challenges with measurable business impact.

In this role, you will define and deliver a scalable framework for workflow automation that empowers professionals to configure and adapt processes without technical expertise, ensuring solutions are extensible across industries and practice types. You will operate as a strategic leader within our empowered team model, working in close collaboration with a UX Designer and Tech Lead in a trio partnership. What you'll do:

Product Strategy & Leadership

• Develop deep understanding of the market & workflows professionals use to run their business through regular customer interviews, prospect research, and quantitative data analysis to identify high-value opportunities that dramatically increase 8am’s competitive advantage.
• Lead collaborative discovery with your design and engineering partners to deeply understand workflow pain points that professionals experience on a daily basis, co-owning problem identification, solution shaping, and outcome delivery.
• Lead the strategy and vision for major initiatives, defining business cases and ROI of automating routine processes so that professionals can scale their practice.
• Leverage a strong understanding of bringing AI-powered solutions to market by partnering with AI infrastructure team to align roadmaps.

Outcome Driven Execution

• Drive continuous problem-solving through data analysis, user feedback, and outcome measurement that directly measure customer value & outcomes created from workflow automation.
• Lead cross-functional alignment around outcomes, ensuring product success is measured, progress is tracked, and corrective action is taken to reach goals
• Collaborate with Product Operations, Data Intelligence, and Analytics teams to establish proper measurement frameworks and dashboards
• Champion customer empathy while making strategic trade-offs when business and customer priorities conflict

Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence

• Effectively influence, negotiate, and articulate strategy with stakeholders at all levels, including executives, to build organizational alignment around your vision
• Be a strong voice & influencer with Product Marketing and GTM teams to define commercialization strategies that maximize business outcomes and customer value
• Partner with Customer Success and GTM to drive adoption and change management, ensuring customers realize measurable efficiency gains and ROI from automated workflows.
• Be a role model for leveraging AI to accelerate discovery, validation & delivery cycles across the product team, influencing process improvements & mentoring junior product managers.
• Use your expertise to deeply understand & influence the 8am product vision and strategy across the organization.

About you:

• 8-10+ years of product management experience in B2B SaaS environments, with proven track record of taking complex, strategic products, including productivity / workflow automation & transformational AI initiatives, to market in high-growth, scaling organizations.
• Deep expertise in customer discovery methodologies, with demonstrated ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative insights into actionable product strategies.
• Strong hands-on experience discovering and delivering technology products collaboratively with UX designers and engineers.
• Proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives without formal authority, with exceptional ability to influence and align senior stakeholders
• Strategic mindset with demonstrated ability to identify, create, and deliver long-term growth initiatives in ambiguous environments
• Business acumen with ability to build compelling business cases and prioritize customer needs within business context
• Outstanding analytical and communication skills - able to develop clear, testable hypotheses and communicate complex strategies clearly to technical and  non-technical audiences
• Experience with agile development methodologies and modern product tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Jira, Confluence, Figma, analytics platforms)
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation.
• This position is preferably based in Austin, Texas.
• Experience in fintech or professional services industries (preferred)
• Experience with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc) integration in product development processes (preferred)
